Body identified as missing Olive Hill man

Oct. 19, 2012 —        The body found near Grayson Lake on Sunday evening has been identified as a missing Olive Hill man.

Kentucky State Police say based upon the initial results from the medical examiner’s office and evidence recovered, the body is that of Nathan Barker, who was last seen on July 12, 2011.

KSP said hikers found the remains near Clifty Creek, which were recovered just after 11 p.m. A wallet was also found during a search of the scene, which contained Barker's ID and other personal items.

The remains were found in a remote location about two miles up Airpot Road, off KY Rt. 7. The location is difficult to get to, requiring a boat, ropes or considerable skill at climbing.

The remains were located less than two miles from the place where Barker's car was located when he disappeared.

Barker was 20 when he was reported missing. He spent time with a group of friends at home off Three Pine Road on the evening of July 11, 2011. He was last seen driving away in the early morning hours of July 12.

Positive identification is also pending completion of DNA testing. The cause and manner of death is still under investigation by KSP Det. Ben Cramer.
