Sept. 25, 2012 —
The Rowan County Board of Education Tuesday approved the 2012-2013 working budget, its delegate to the Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) and flu shots for uninsured board employees.
The board approved the 2012-2013 working budget of $26 million.
“The working budget is the third and final budget required of the state,” said Glen Teager, district finance officer. “The total budget for fiscal year 2012-2103 includes state, local and federal allocations.”
Ray Ginter, assistant principal and athletic director at Rowan County Senior High School, was named as the KHSAA voting delegate representing Rowan County athletics.
The board approved payment of up to $15 for any district employee who does not have health insurance and wants a flu shot.
In other business, Tilden Hogge Elementary Principal Larry Tapp updated board members on Rowan’s share of a $20 million to $30 million grant that can be used within the district for math education, technology, pathways to careers and professional development and improving teacher environment.
“If this Race to the Top District Grant is approved it will be split among 10 counties with amounts determined by the number of students in grades 6-12 in each county,” said Tapp. “Boyd is the lead district in this grant. Carter, Lawrence, Ashland, Fairview, Morgan, Elliott, Greenup and Martin are also included.”
He said Rowan County has 1,700 students in grades 6-12.
Tapp added that Rowan County also has applied for a $2 million supplemental grant that would be used for the Rowan County Youth and Family Resource Centers.
