September 3, 2010 —     Morehead Area Habitat for Humanity received a grant last week to build five houses in the area. The Federal Home Loan Bank of Cincinnati in partnership with the Whitaker Bank of Morehead presented the check for $248,000 last week at a Habitat worksite with members of the community, chamber of commerce and representatives from U.S representative Hal Rogers’ office in attendance.

Whitaker Bank President Terry Ensor said he glad to be part of the grant.

“We’ve been a partnership with Habitat and the federal loan bank since 1990,” Ensor said. “It’s just really rewarding to see these families get to improve their quality of life.”

Rogers’ representative Pat Wooten said Morehead being the recipient of the grant will echo around the area.

“It’s a bright, beautiful day and the event here has added to the beauty of the day in this part of our congressional district,” Wooten said. “It’s a big day for Rowan County and the Morehead community and thereby a great day for the congressional district.

According to Habitat for Humanity Director Ezra Dike, the first one-fifth of the $248,000 will be loaned to the residents when the first family moves into the first home being built. Dike said those families receiving the grant have to be below 60 percent of the area’s median income.
