Aug. 24, 2012 — Three Morehead men and a Lexington oxycodone supplier were arrested in the Morehead Lowe’s parking lot Tuesday by Rowan County sheriff’s deputies during what they described as a “buy -bust”.
Undercover deputies arranged to buy 50 oxycodone 30-mg pills from Kevin Smedley, 41, of Morehead, who set up the meeting in the Lowe’s parking lot at 6 p.m.
Deputies in unmarked vehicles arrived at the meeting point and were told a supplier from Lexington, Andrew King, 32, would arrive shortly.
Following King’s arrival, Eric Maher, 30, and James Ruth, Jr., 30, also arrived at the scene, allegedly to purchase oxycodone.
Rowan deputies converged on the drug buy and took all four men into custody without incident.
King, who was allegedly under the influence, was carrying a loaded .25 caliber automatic weapon in his pocket without certification. He had 72 oxycodone pills for sale.
He is charged with driving under the influence, trafficking in a controlled substance first degree and carrying a concealed deadly weapon.
Smedley is charged with trafficking in a controlled substance first degree.
Both will additionally be charged with conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance.
Ruth and Maher were charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia after deputies located a small amount of oxycodone pills and paraphernalia in their possession.
