Local citizens and government and bank officials gathered at SRG Global’s Winner’s Circle walking track to celebrate employee wellness during a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday morning.
“We’ve been talking about it for a year,” said Human Resources Manager Brenda Johnson. “We just got to put it into place.”
Construction for the track began in the last week of August and was completed on Sept. 1.
“We have a Wellness Program that promotes exercise, making smart eating habits, preventative care and to not use tobacco products,” Johnson added. “(The track) is for our employees and their families and they can use it any time. Our Wellness Program is really good. It is so good we were the only SRG facility to make our healthcare costs go down.”
Johnson said the track will provide a safe place for SRG employees and their families to walk.
“We have different competitions,” she said. “This track will enable our employees’ performance during those competitions.”
Johnson also said the track would be a good source for boosting company morale.
“It’s good for them to come outside and walk,” she said. “We are big on teamwork. I think having the track will enable them to get to know each other and work well together.”
Paint Manager Duane Wilder said he thought the track would make employees more productive as well.
“Physical activity promotes better work habits,” Wilder said. “It’s known to stimulate the mind and it is known to help people to pay attention to details.”
Wilder said the plant management group hopes employees and their families will take advantage of the track.
Human Resources Director Ryan Harrison said he was excited about the track.
“I think the track itself will create a common purpose,” Harrison said. “It gives them something to accomplish together.”
“We appreciate the maintenance crew for helping us to put this ribbon cutting together today,” Johnson added. “The community has been great. We appreciate all the community members who came out for this (ribbon-cutting).”
SRG Global invested $9,000 in the walking track, which is located behind the SRG main parking lot near the Rowan County Senior High School football field. SRG Global is a division of the Guardian Company and is located at 200 Guardian Drive.
