RCMS takes twin wins from West

August 31, 2010 —     The Rowan County Middle School Vikings had a great night Thursday, pulling off two wins over West Carter.

In the seventh grade match up, the Vikings won 14-8.

Kyler Hodges and Brandon Loper both rushed in touchdowns for Rowan.

The victory puts the Vikings at 2-1 on the season, 2-0 and in first place in the southern division conference. The game put a swift end to West Carter’s 2-0 winning streak and their hopes of an undefeated season.

“The kids played well on defense and had a couple of big stops late in the game,” Coach Mike Kash said. “When West was moving with a chance to tie, Caleb Jones played really well.”

The eighth grade team nabbed their first victory of the season with a 24-0 win.

“It was a really great game,” Kash said. “Everything came together and some of the new kids really stepped and played really well.”

Justin Graham had another solid game at quarterback, running in one touchdown and a two-point conversion. Aaron Fuller and Kyle Bowling ran the ball in for one touchdown each.

“Graham continues to impress with his knowledge of the game and his work ethic,” Kash said. “The offensive line was also did really great things for us.”

On the line, Aaron Dial, Lucas Helton, and Jake Little all came in off the bench to make a big difference in the game.

The RCMS Vikings play host to Nicholas County this Thursday. The seventh grade game kicks off at 6 p.m.

“I just can’t say enough about fan support,” Kash said. “It means a lot to the kids to look up and see so many Rowan County fans supporting them and telling them how well they are doing.”
