The ten-hour course, sponsored by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources and the Morehead State Varsity Rifle Team will include classroom instruction on hunter ethics, wildlife identification, outdoor survival, first aid, firearms, bow hunting, and ammunition. The last session will include actual range firing and an examination. The minimum age to take the course is 10 years old.

Upon successful completion of the course, a graduate card will be issued which is valid in any state where such certification is required. The card is required at many management areas, as well. Attendance at all sessions is required for certification.
