Morehead State will be one of 16 teams participating in the 2012 Preseason Women’s Basketball National Invitation Tournament. The field includes 11 teams who were in the postseason last year.
The bracket for the event will be announced on July 17.
Along with MSU, the field features Davidson, Delaware, Duquesne, Georgetown, Grambling State, Illinois State, Iowa, Kennesaw State, Liberty, Memphis, Middle Tennessee, North Carolina, Northern Illinois, Sacred Heart and Sam Houston State.
"We are very excited and honored to be invited into the prestigious Preseason WNIT,” said MSU Head Coach Tom Hodges. “It’s very humbling to be one of 16 teams hand selected by a committee that projects the future success of their participants. Our inclusion in this event is a testament to the success our program has had over the past five or six years and we are anxiously awaiting our draw in the tournament that could include many of the Top 25 teams in the country."
The Preseason WNIT kicks off the women’s college basketball season and will be played in a three-game guarantee championship format. The event opens Nov. 9 with first-round games. Second-round games will be played Nov. 11 with semifinals set for Nov. 14-15. The championship is scheduled for Nov. 18. Teams that lose in the first two rounds will play consolation games on the second weekend, Nov. 16-17. All games are hosted by participating schools.
