The RCSHS swimmers have had a very busy week.

On Saturday, Jan. 3 the Vikings took to the water for the first time after the holiday break. They traveled to Scott High School for the Scott Eagle Classic. At this meet, the boys’ relay team broke a new school record in the 200 Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:44.17. Members of the RCSHS Boys Relay Team are: Clay Cyrus (junior and Team Captain), Justin Skaggs (sophomore), Cova Cornett (junior), and Ty Alderman (7th grader.)

Ty Alderman also broke the school record in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.89.

On Thursday, Jan. 8 they traveled to Ashland where they came away with another win—beating Ashland, Boyd County, Elliott County and Russell. Several more Rowan County school records were broken at this meet. Clay Cyrus broke his own school record in the 100 Fly with a time of 1:01.58 and Morgan Cyrus broke the 100 Freestyle record with a time of 1:01.61. Coach Hanna Kappes and the Viking Swim Team are doing great and they are very excited about competing in the Freshman Regionals at Scott High School on Wednesday, Jan. 14 and then High School Regionals Feb. 4-7.
