Head coach Carson Blackwelder and the Morehead State cross country teams will face a challenging but rewarding schedule in 2009. The schedule includes several new meets MSU has not been a part of and several meets pitting the Eagles against the region's and nation's top running programs.
The Eagles begin the season on Sept. 5 at a new event for MSU, the Brooks Memphis Twilight in Memphis, Tenn. The schedule continues on Sept. 19 in Nashville, Tenn., at the Vanderbilt Commodore Classic and pre-OVC meet. Several Ohio Valley Conference teams will be at the event, giving MSU a measuring stick of where they need to be for the conference championships.
On Oct. 3, the Eagles will be in Louisville at the Greater Louisville Classic. This event is one of the premier collegiate races in the south with a large field of teams that historically have placed well at the NCAA regional and overall championships.
Blackwelder will take his teams close to his alma mater on Oct. 16 as they participate in the Blue Ridge Open in Boone, N.C. The MSU second-year coach was a standout runner at Appalachian State.
The OVC Championships are set for Nashville on Oct. 31, and the NCAA Southeast Regional is on Nov. 14 in Louisville.
