MSU Women's Golf gains a spot and takes 7th at Lady Herd Fall Classic
The Morehead State women's golf team improved by 16 strokes as a unit and gained one spot Tuesday to finish seventh out of 12 teams at the Lady Herd Fall Classic at the par 72, 6,036-yard Sleepy Hollow Golf Club.
After a 330 team score on Monday, the Eagles fired the fourth-best team score on Tuesday with a 314 and finished with a two-day total of 644. Towson University came from behind to claim the team title with a 620. The Tigers fired a tournament low 304 on Tuesday. Radford was second, followed by Cincinnati, Austin Peay, Southern Mississippi, Ohio, MSU, Marshall, Florida Gulf Coast, Cleveland State, Ohio Valley and Concord University.
Freshman Sara Jackson and sophomore Paige Lausier paced the Eagles, both tying for 15th place overall. Jackson carded a 81-77--158, while Lausier came in with a 78-80--158.
Freshman Emma Jonsson made the largest improvement for MSU on Tuesday. After an 85 on Monday, she responded with a 78 on Tuesday for a tournament total of 163 and a tie for 27th.
Junior Ashley Redmond also improved by seven strokes and tied for 34th place with a 86-79--165, and junior Darlene Bognot was tied in 41st place with a 86-81--167.
The Eagles also had two players as individuals. Freshman Karolina Tunstig was tied for 37th by carding a 83-83--166, and freshman Janelle Galloway turned in a pair of 86's for a 174 total and a tie for 51st place.
Radford's Hannah Coles was the individual medalist as she fired a 75-73--148.
MSU's next action is at the Richmond Spider Invitational in Midlothian, Va., on Oct. 13-14.
