MARCH 5 — MOREHEAD, Ky. - Morehead State senior softball pitcher Alex Gjevre was named this week's Ohio Valley Conference co-Pitcher of the Week.
It marks the ninth time in her career that the Billings, Mont., native has earned the OVC weekly honor. She shared this week's accolade with Maddie Schmissrauter of Tennessee Tech. UT Martin sophomore Jenny Bain was the Player of the Week.
Gjevre pitched 11.2 innings over two games this weekend and did not allow a run to cross the plate. She also only gave up four total hits. She recorded her first shutout of the year on Saturday as she held Pitt to only two hits while striking out seven. On Sunday, she came to the circle in a relief role and shut out the Panthers for 4.2 innings while only surrendering two hits to go along with six strikeouts.
Gjevre was the 2009 OVC Pitcher of the Year and was named First-Team All-OVC the last two years while also earning the school's first-ever All-Region honor.
