Women's Golf schedule includes new events for 2010-11

CNHI

August 31, 2010 —     Morehead State women’s golf coach Stephanie Barker released the Eagles regular season schedule for the 2010-11 season Friday. The third-year program will participate in six tournaments this fall and seven in the spring including the 2011 Ohio Valley Conference Championship.

MSU upped the number of events on this year’s docket. The Eagles will still compete in six of the same tournaments from a season ago, but will add a bevy of new tournaments that includes trips to Alabama and South Carolina in early March to compete in the South Alabama Lady Jaguar Invitational and the Barefoot Beach Classic.

“We’re excited about returning to the places we’ve competed at before and about adding some new tournaments,” Barker said. “The girls are really excited about this schedule because they will get to play against some different teams and competition than we’ve seen before. It’s a challenging schedule, but I think we’re strong enough to be competitive in all of our tournaments.”

Morehead State begins competition on Aug. 29, hosting its annual tri-match against Marshall and Eastern Kentucky at the Eagles’ home course Eagle Trace Golf Club. The tournament normally rotates location, but poor weather conditions brought the tri-match back to Eagle Trace for the second consecutive year.

In the month of September, the Eagles will play in the Murray State Drake Creek Invite on Sept. 13-14 and then play in the Cincinnati Fall Classic in Batavia, Ohio on Sept. 20-21, an event the Eagles finished in second place a year ago.

The Eagles will play in the Lady Herd Classic in Huntington, W.Va. on Oct. 11-12 and then travel to Williamsburg, Va. on Oct. 16-17 to compete in the Tribe Invitational hosted by William and Mary. MSU will close out its fall schedule on Oct. 25-26 in Kiawah, S.C. at the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate hosted by the College of Charleston.

During the spring, the Eagles will return to Ocala, Fla. to host the MSU Ocala Spring Invitational in on March 21-22. Morehead State then travels to Crystal Springs, Fla. to play in the Cincinnati Spring Invitational on March 25-17. April 4-5, the Eagles will be in Pinehurst, N.C. for the Pinehurst Spring Challenge and on April 9-10 the Eagles will return to Kentucky to compete in the EKU Lady Colonel Classic in Richmond.

This year’s OVC Championships will again be played in Dickson, Tenn. At the GreyStone Golf Club on April 21-23.
