Morehead State men’s basketball coach Donnie Tyndall finished in the Top 20 in voting for the Lexington Herald-Leader’s Kentucky Sportsman of the Year Award.
Tyndall received 28 votes to finish tied for 19th overall. Kentucky coach John Calapari finished first in the voting to win the award. Votes were cast by sports media members from across Kentucky and voters submitted up to 10 names.
MSU junior Kenneth Faried also earned votes, tallying 17 points.
“I’ve always said that anytime an individual is singled out for an award or accolade, it’s never just about that person, it’s a team effort,” Tyndall said. “Me being on this list and Kenneth receiving votes is a tribute everyone on our team and reflects the hard work our coaches and players put in every day.”
Past winners of the award, which has been in existence since 1981, include former Morehead State football quarterback Phil Simms.
Tyndall, Faried and the rest of the Eagles conclude a three-game home stand Tuesday against future Ohio Valley Conference member SIU-Edwardsville at 7 p.m. at Johnson Arena.
