Oct. 29, 2012 — Last Thursday night in Grayson marked the beginning of a three-day trek, which saw the Vikings and Lady Vikings compete in two races.
First up, a trio of RMCS runners, Janae Graham, Sarah Hallock and Kelsey Cyrus participated in the first cross country meet to ever be held at the Carter County Fair Grounds of I-64.
Competing against varsity competition, Hallock and Cyrus finished solid with top 25 placements. Graham once again showed she has a bright future, finishing fourth overall, just behind regional leader, East Carter’s Macy Dyer.
“I’ve only been running at the varsity level for about two weeks, so I’m pretty happy with how I’ve been doing,” Graham said. “There is some good runners in this area, and I hope to be as good as they are eventually.”
Saturday marked the KTCCCA Meet of Champions, and green and white was out in full force.
On the boys side, Shelley Deharte continued his ascent up the area ladder, nabbing a sixth-place finish out of 414 runners with a final time of 17:01.20 in the boys 5K run. Daniel Johnson and Nick Anderson finished just outside of the top 100.
For the Lady Vikings, Mackenzie Summers metaled as 15th out of all seniors with a time of 24:53.50, Allie Banks Metaled 33rd for all juniors with a time 30:40 and Hannah Eldridge was just out of the top 35 in 37th place for the sophomores with a time of 30:18.
RCMS made its mark as well on Saturday, finishing 8 out of 35 teams at the state meet, with Graham leading the way, grabbing a 25th place finish in the time of 16:14. Angela Marcum finished 147th, Cyrus 181st, Hallock 199th, Samantha Patrick 213th, Mackenzie Cline 319th and Taylor Robinson finished 324th.
