RCMS Lady Vikings 2010 season is underway

September 3, 2010 —     The Rowan County Middle School Lady Vikings basketball teams are already into their regular season action.

    The seventh grade team is currently undefeated, standing at 5-0 on their season.

    On Monday, the gals in green defeated Menifee County 38-11.

    Ariel Gross and Hannah Bandura led the team in scoring with six points each. Kenna Maynard had five.

    On Tuesday night, Rowan’s gals took down West Carter 36-13.

     “We started off the game slowly on offense,” Coach Gerald Conn said. “But had a strong third quarter to get a comfortable lead and held on against a scrappy West Carter team.”

    Sarah Purdy was the leading scorer for the game with 11 points. Summer Oakley put up 10.

    The RCMS 8th grade girls basketball team opened the season with a 38-23 win over Russell on Aug. 19.

    Leading the Lady Vikings to the win was Becca Duff with 16 points. Chrissy Hall and Emma Lewis had 6 points and Bailee Pennington had 4.

    On Aug. 24 the team traveled to East Carter to face the Lady Raiders. The team had a difficult time with the East press and fell 39-9.

    On Aug. 25 the Lady Vikings returned home to play Mason County.

     Trailing by only 2 after three quarters of play, Mason wore down the home team to escape with a 32-18 win.

    RCMS was led in scoring by Emma Lewis with eight points while Hannah Baker and Ally Hackney each had three. Bailee Pennington and Becca Duff had two each.

    Rowan rebounded on Aug. 26 for a 34-17 win against Rose Hill.

    Scoring were Emma Lewis with nine points and Becca Duff with seven. Hannah Baker had five and Bailee Pennington put up three. Chrissy Hall, Lindsay Wilson and Ally Hackney had two points each.

    On Aug. 30 the ladies in green hosted Menifee County for a  34-23 win.

    Becca Duff led the team with 11 points and Emma Lewis chipped in with 10. Bailee Pennington had four while Bridget Kim, Chrissy Hall, Lindsay Wilson and Ally Hackney had two each.

    The RCMS girls traveled to West Carter on Aug. 31 and lost to the home team 23-17. Scoring were Becca Duff with eight points and Chrissy Hall with three. Emma Lewis, Bridget Kim and Bailee Pennington had two each.
