Oct. 2, 2012 — The Rowan County volleyball team moved one step closer to completing the program’s best regular season ever, defeating Mason County 3-0 at home to pick up its 28th win of the year.
Riding a nine-game winning streak, the Lady Vikes simply dominated from the first serve, as sophomore McKayla Ledford began the night by serving Rowan County to 16 unanswered points.
A few responses is all the Lady Royals could muster, tallying a meager five points, with Jessica Mullins, Taylor Conn and Harmony Past contributing several unreturned serves and aces to end the first game with an exclamation point, a 25-5 win.
Two games away from a 30-win season, Rowan’s girls persisted throughout the rest of the night, keeping any considerable challenge by Mason at bay with tough play in front of the net by Faith Conn and Mullins. An hour is all it took for the Lady Vikings to put a wrap on the night, winning the second and third match, 25-14.
Following the victory, Rowan County enjoyed a volleyball-free weekend as it gets set to head out of the region for a matchup with Lexington Christian tonight, before it ends the regular season this Thursday at home against Greenup County.
