Morehead State senior center Kenneth Faried won his 11th career Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week award the league announced Monday afternoon. The 11 awards equals the most ever by a single player, tying the mark set by former UT Martin standout Lester Hudson.
Faried also was named to the NetScouts basketball Player of the Week honors. It was the fourth time this season the blog has tabbed Faried for the award.
Faried earned both awards after three monster games against non-conference schools last week, helping lead MSU to a trio of wins. He recorded 20 point games in all three outings and registering a double-double in each game as well. He had 24 points and 10 rebounds to lead MSU over Kent State, adding in three blocks and two steals. He was also 10-of-11 from the field in that game. He scored 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds versus Binghamton with two blocks and three steals. Sunday against College of Charleston he had 20 points, 13 boards and two blocks, hitting 10-of-14 from the field. For the week he averaged 22.3 points, 11.7 rebounds and shot 74.4 percent. He led the Eagles in scoring in two of the three games and in rebounding in all three.
It was Faried’s fourth OVC Player of the Week honor this season. He earned the award five times as a junior. Hudson also holds the record for the most selections in a single season with seven in 2007-08.
The Eagles hosted Tennessee Tech in an OVC matchup Thursday at 7:45 p.m. after presstime.
