Aug. 21, 2012 — The Rowan County Lady Vikings volleyball team continued to show great promise for the 2012 season, defeating Fleming County 3-0 at home on Thursday.
It was a dominant performance through and through for the girls in green, as they grabbed a 25-11 victory in the first match of the evening.
In the second matchup, Rowan County junior Faith Conn helped continue the Lady Vikings’ good fortune.
Along with senior Jessica Mullins, Conn helped to create a stalemate in front of the net for Rowan County.
Every time an opportunity arose for a Fleming score, Mullins and Conn would be in front of the net to play the spoiler, often times delivering violent spikes to grab a green and white score.
Outside hitter Megan Armstrong joined in on the fun, delivering a wicked spike of her own to give Rowan County a 17-4 lead in the second match.
Fleming only scored three more points for the remainder of the affair, with Marshall delivering a final emphatic blow for the game point to give the Lady Vikings a 25-7 victory.
The third set of the night did not begin as the others had, as Fleming County held an early 3-2 advantage.
With the game tied at three apiece, Morgan Cyrus stepped up to serve for Rowan, using an assortment of well-place serves to give her team a commanding 10-3 lead.
Up 24-11 in the final game point of the night, Rowan County once again finished the game with style when Shelby Adams drove the dagger home on a thunderous spike.
The Lady Vikings next matchup will be against East Carter this coming Thursday at home.
