Morehead Youth basketball action

The Morehead Youth League basketball is in full swing. Last Tuesday in third and fourth grade hoops action, the Celtics slipped by the Spurs, 15-14.

The Celts jumped out to an early 6-4 lead in the first quarter but the Spurs tied it up 9-9 before the half. Both teams put up just two in the third quarter, but the Celtics outscored their opponent 4-3 in the final round.

A.J. Hacker led the Celticsa in scoring with five points. Viencent Harper put up four and Mason Ravenscraft had two.

Caleb Floyd led the Spurs with five points. Cory Binion sank four and Anthony Kronmuller had two.

The Cavs took down the Bulls, 26-22. The Bulls had the early lead, 8-5 at the half, but the Cavs sank 19 points in the final round for the win.

Ryan Mullen led the Cavs in scoring with 23 points. Trevor Fannin had two and Drew Holbrook put up one from the charity stripe. Clay Sizemore led the Bulls in scoring with 11 points. Nicholas Tiedeman put up five and Austin Prevatte had two.

The Lakers took down the Knicks, 30-14.

Noah Tansin led the Lakers in scoring with 10 points while Braden Smith and Brady Goodman put up eight each. For the Knicks, Austin Littleton sank six. Charlie Whelan had four and Jesse Sparks had two.

The fifth and sixth grade teams were in action Nov. 20. The Bulls took the Celtics, 26-15.

Chris Roberts led the Bulls in scoring with 13 points. Jacob Messer had seven and Luke Skinner put up two.

Andrew Kelsey and Trey Barber had four each for the Celtics while Austin Sloan sank three.

The Spurs beat the Suns in overtime, 13-11.

Luke Mead led the Spurs in scoring with five points whole Chris Oakley and Adrian Kidd put up two each. Matthew Gagliano had four points for the Suns. Khi Adkins had three and Joseph Gagliano sank one from the field.

The Cavs took the Wildcats, 46-17.

Jon DeHart sank 26 points to lead the Cavs in scoring. Christopher Purnell had nine and Caleb Maze put up five.

Dalton Crockett led the Wildcats with five points. Caleb Castle and Jacob Sergent had four each.

The Celtics slipped by the Spurs Nov. 21, 17-16. The Spurs jumped out to an early 6-3 lead, but the Celts took over to lead 9-8 at the half. Andrew Kelsey led the Celts in scoring with six points. Zack Alcorn had five and Kobe McWhorter sank four. Cody Mocabee and Luke Meade had four each for the Spurs. Dillon Boyd sank three.

The Bulls beat the Cavs, 27-19.

Chris Roberts led the Bulls in scoring with 11 points. Michael Fultz had eight and Jacob Messer had four.

Christopher Pernell sank eight for the Cavs. Caleb Maze had seven and Michael Wallace had two.

The Wildcats took the Suns, 21-18.

Caleb Castle led the Wildcats in scoring with 13 points. Kayne Perry had five and Jacob Sergent sank three. Aaron Bauer had eight points for the Suns. Ethan Keeton had four and Khi Adkins put up two.

Last Tuesday, the Bulls beat the Spurs, 21-17.

Chris Roberts led the Bulls in scoring with six points. Adam Davis had three and Kian Daugherty had two.

Dillon Boyd put up five for the Spurs. Luke Meade and Adrian Kidd had four each.

The Celtics out scored the Wildcats, 28-21.

Trey Barber and Andrew Kelsey led the Celts in scoring with eight points each. Zack Wilson sank six. Caleb Castle led the Wildcats in scoring with 11 points. Jordan Davis had four and Collen McKenzie put up two.

The Cavs stomped the Suns, 27-16.

Caleb Maze, Christopher Pernell and Jon DeHart each sank six for the Cavs. Khi Adkins led the Suns with four points. Aaron Bauer had three and Ethan Keeton put up two.

All school-age youth are invited to participate in the Shoot Hoops Not Drugs program Tuesday, June 5 in Rowan County at the old middle school gym, 415 West Sun Street.
