Feb. 10, 2012 —
It was business as usual for Lakeside’s girls as they easily defeated rival Bluegrass Christian at home Monday night, 53-34.
In front of its home crowd on the campus of Lakeside Christian Academy, the Lady Falcons grabbed its 16th win of the season in preparation for another run toward a KCAA Championship.
Big nights for the seniors made the way for Lakeside success, with big nights from Morgan Ravenscraft, Ally McGhee and Whitlea Wall.
The first quarter of play saw rival Bluegrass challenge the home team converting on several threes to make the game competitive early on.
As they have done all season, the Lady Falcons responded with an impressive offensive display of its own. Led by Ravenscraft’s and Wall’s six-point outings in the first, Lakeside’s girls were able to enter the second with a comfortable 18-10 lead.
For the next eight minutes of play, defense was the name of the LCA squad, as they suffocated the Bluegrass girls, holding the visitors to a mere five points in the period.
In blowout mode, Lakeside did not let up on Bluegrass for the rest of the game’s duration.
Following the half, both teams played such good defense that neither could seem to pull the lid off the rim, matching each other with four point outputs.
With a 34-19 lead, McGhee took it upon herself to see to it that there would be threat of a Bluegrass comeback, scoring 10 fourth quarter points, while converting on six-of-six free throws down the stretch.
McGhee and Ravenscraft finished the night with 16 points, while Wall also made a dent in the scoring column with 15.
The Lady Falcons appear to once again be headed towards another banner-raising season as they finish up the regular season with a road game against Ironton tonight, before they wrap up with a home finale on Saturday against Somerset.
There will be more on Lakeside’s regular season finish in next Tuesday’s edition of The Morehead News.
