Daniel Boone National Forest management officials are encouraging a successful hunting season this fall by opening several Forest Service roads to the public. These roads will open temporarily to motor vehicle use on the Cumberland Ranger District.
“By opening these roads to public vehicles, more national forest land will be accessible to hunters,” said District Ranger Dave Manner. “This will help distribute hunters throughout the forest, which will provide a safer hunting environment and promote an effective deer harvest.”
Peter Branch Road #1058 and Pioneer Road #1225 opened on August 27. The Shooting Range Road #909 will open on October 15 and close on January 4.
In the Morehead area, the following roads will open on October 15 and close on December 20: Ramey Creek Road #961, Big Perry Road #977 and Murder Branch Road #1074.
In the interest of public safety, the Scott Creek Road #1093 in the Morehead area will not open this fall due to a collapsed culvert.
In the Stanton area, the following roads will open on November 5 and close on November 29: Hatton Ridge Road #165, June Bug Road #167, Short Creek Road #168.
“Some roads may close earlier than planned if road surface damage begins to occur as a result of wet weather,” said Manner.
Parked vehicles cannot block any road entrance, including gated roads, on national forest lands.
Forest visitors are encouraged to wear hunter orange or other bright colors during hunting season.
