Eagle baseball visits Austin Peay this weekend

May 11, 2012 —     Morehead State baseball travels to Clarksville, Tenn., to face Ohio Valley Conference opponent Austin Peay in a three-game series beginning Friday at 7 p.m. ET.

Freshman right-hander Aaron Goe will start game one. Sophomore southpaw Noah Smallwood will start the second contest, and the third starter will be announced Saturday.

Below are notes for this weekend's series versus the Governors:

    • Senior third baseman Andrew Deeds led the Eagles offensively last week versus Tennessee Tech. Deeds collected seven hits as he continued his chase for the MSU program single season and career hit records. Deeds collected a pair of safeties in MSU’s game one victory including his sixth long ball of the year. He went 4-for-5 with an RBI in game two and notched a grand slam in in the series finale.

    • Freshman outfielder Duran Elmore is closing in on a program record of his own. Elmore is one sacrifice shy of the single season program record held by former Eagle outfielder Travis Rima set in 2005.

    • Dry Ridge, Ky., native and Eagle starting pitcher, Aaron Goe, earned his second consecutive BluGrass Baseball Freshman of the Week selection Monday. Goe earned his fifth victory Friday versus Tennessee Tech tossing eight innings, fanning seven and not allowing a walk in the Eagle win. Friday’s contest was Goe’s fifth consecutive quality start and longest outing of the year.

    • Junior closer Matt Duncan notched his 11th save Friday and broke the program single season saves mark. The 17-year-old record was held by former Eagle Michael Thompson. Duncan leads the OVC in saves.

    • Senior twins Luke and Eric Bainer have recorded seven home runs in the last 10 games. Luke Bainer hit two long balls in the series against TTU.

    • With Friday’s win over the Golden Eagles, Head Coach Jay Sorg earned his 25th victory of the season, his highest win total during his five-year tenure.
