Aug. 1, 2012 — Gov. Steve Beashear has reappointed banker Paul C. Goodpaster of Morehead and added Wayne M. Martin of Winchester to the Morehead State University Board of Regents.
Goodpaster’s second term will expire on June 30, 2018. Martin, who was a regent from 1989-93, will serve for the remainder of an unexpired term ending June 30, 2016. He replaces David V. Hawpe, who resigned.
“We are delighted with the reappointment of Paul Goodpaster and the appointment of Wayne Martin to the MSU Board of Regents,” President Wayne D. Andrews said. “Both men have been truly committed to the University and I know will continue to support MSU in our mission and our goal of becoming the best public regional university in the South, all for the benefit of our students and their families.”
With 24 years of banking experience, Goodpaster is executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Citizens Bank in Morehead. He is responsible for the day-to-day management of the bank.
He is a former chief financial officer for Rowan Technical College, now the Rowan Campus of Maysville Community and Technical College. During his three years in that post, he also served on the college’s advisory board.
Active in various organizations in the community, Goodpaster is a current member of the Morehead/Rowan County Industrial Development Authority and a past board member of the Morehead/Rowan County Economic Development Authority. Currently on the board, he is past president of the Morehead-Rowan County Chamber of Commerce. He is a member of Trinity Christian Fellowship Church.
A Morehead State graduate, Goodpaster earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with an emphasis in finance in 1989.
He is married to the former Kimberly Susan Walters, also an MSU alumnus. They are the parents of three children: Brandon, Brook, and Nathan.
Martin is regional vice president for Gray Television Inc., president of Gray Kentucky Television Inc., which operates WKYT-TV in Lexington, WYMT-TV in Hazard, and WBKO-TV inBowling Green, all in Kentucky, and president of WVLT-TV, Knoxville, Tenn. He has served as president and general manager of WKYT-TV since 1993.
Prior to that, he was the station’s vice president and general sales manager. Martin began his career in broadcast television management at WYMT, where he was successively general sales manager and general manager during a span of three years.
Before entering broadcasting, Martin had a successful career as a college and high school basketball coach. As head coach at Morehead State University from 1978-1987, he led the Eagles to two NCAA tournaments. As head coach and athletic director at Pikeville College, Martin’s teams made three national tournament appearances. He also served as assistant basketball coach at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Okla., and head basketball coach and business teacher at Pikeville High School.
Martin is active in civic and community affairs, having served in leadership positions such as chairman of the Kentucky and the Greater Lexington Chamber of Commerce, chairman of the Lexington Area Sports Authority, chairman of the Lexington Center Corporation, vice chairman of the Morehead State University Board of Regents, president of the Kentucky Broadcaster’s Association, chairman of both the United Way Board of Directors and the annual campaign, and chairman of the Children’s Advocacy Center Board of Directors. He is currently chairman of the Governor’s Scholars Foundation and Board member of Central Bancshares, Central Baptist Hospital Board of Directors, American Heart Association and Kentucky-American Water Company.
He graduated with honors from MSU with a Bachelor of Arts in business degree in 1968, a Master of Arts in Education degree and Rank I Administrative Certification. He is married to the former Kathy Goins, a Frankfort native, and has three sons, Chris, Matthew and Michael, and two grandsons, Will and Lane.
