Sept. 28, 2012 — Brazilian musician Dr. Eduardo Meirinhos, guitarist, will present a recital at Morehead State University, Wednesday, Oct. 24, at 8 p.m. in Duncan Recital Hall within Baird Music Hall. The event is free and open to the public.
His performance is in conjunction with a faculty exchange program.
The concert will include works by Heitor Villa-Lobos, Manuel Maria Ponce, John W. Duarte, Leo Brouwer and Roland Dyens.
Dr. Meirinhos is a professor at the School of Music of the Universidade Federal de Goiás (Federal University of Goiás), Brazil, where he teaches guitar, guitar literature and chamber music. He holds a Doctor of Music degree from Florida State University, a master’s degree in musicology from Universidade de São Paulo (University of São Paulo) and a degree in music performance from the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hannover in Germany. He has performed extensively in South America, Germany and the United States, participating in music festivals as both teacher and performer. Among these festivals were the Festival de Musica de Londrina, Festival de Inverno de Campos do Jordão, Seminario de Musica de Montenegro, Curso de Verão de Brasília and the Festival de Vale Vêneto.
The campus performance is sponsored by Magnets, the FIPSE exchange program, a grant from the U.S. Department of Education, and the Brazilian education organization CAPES.
