Dr. Neal Corwell to present guest recital, Nov. 8

Oct. 3, 2012 —

Morehead State University will host a Guest Artists Recital by Dr. Neal Corwell, euphonium, and Kathryn Sinclair Corwell, piano, Thursday, Nov. 8, at 3 p.m. in the Duncan Recital Hall within the Baird Music Hall.

Dr. Corwell is currently a member of the U.S. Army Band in Washington, D.C., “Pershing’s Own,” the premiere band of our nation’s senior service. During his 31 years as a professional musician, he has worked diligently to gain recognition for the euphonium as a solo instrument. As part of that effort, Dr. Corwell has presented many solo recitals in an effort to introduce music lovers to the beauty and technical capability of the euphonium and other brass instruments.

For the recitals, he will be playing both trombone and euphonium, and will perform a variety of his own original works and arrangements, some accompanied by piano, and others with pre-recorded electronics. One work, “Dusk,” features live electronics with a foot-controlled sound processor (stomp box) and a synthesizer that he controls with his left hand while playing his horn with his right. He also will premiere two new arrangements for euphonium with piano “Asturias” and “Fantasia Originale.”

His wife, Kathryn Sincell-Corwell, will be the pianist for the recitals.

Dr. Corwell also will present many clinics and masterclasses during his travels. In addition to brass performance topics, clinics will cover topics such as performance careers, composing and arranging, electronic music and recording.

Information is available by contacting Dr. Stacy Baker, professor of music, at 606-783-2107.
