July 11, 2012 — Two Morehead State students are among the 31 contestants that will compete in the 2012 Miss Kentucky Pageant. Those contestants are Lara Turner, 21, of West Liberty and Annie Franklin, 19, of Winchester.
According to its website, each student gained entry into the 2012 Miss Kentucky Pageant by winning an official preliminary pageant in their respective regions. Turner won Miss Magoffin while Franklin captured Miss Monticello.
Turner is a nursing major with a platform of “Protecting our Youth,” while her talent will be “the Well-Tempered Clavier” on the piano.
Franklin is a theatre major with a platform of “H’Art of the Matter- Much More than Art” while she will sing “My Man” as her talent.
The event’s preliminary competitions will take place at 7 p.m. on July 12 and 13 with the finals and crowning set for 7 p.m., July 14. Each day of the pageant will be held at the Singletary Center for the Arts on the campus of the University of Kentucky in Lexington. Tickets are $25 for each preliminary night, $50 for the finals and available by calling the Singletary Center box office at 859-257-4929.
Supporters of the two can possibly play an important role in the pageant’s outcome. One of the semifinalists for Miss Kentucky will be voted in by the public rather than the judges’ panel. Each vote costs $1 and can be made by credit card or PayPal at www.misskentuckypageant.com with no voting limit.
The winner will go on to represent Kentucky in the Miss America Pageant in January 2013. In addition, more than $39,000 in cash scholarships will be awarded during the pageant’s duration.
