June 29, 2012 — Morehead State University’s Board of Regents chair John Merchant, a partner in the Cincinnati office of Peck, Shaffer and Williams LLP, a leading national public finance law firm, has been appointed to Ohio’s State Audit Committee.
He is a graduate of MSU and the University Of Kentucky College Of Law. He is in his second six-year term on the board.
The State Audit Committee is a five-member committee that assists the Governor and Director of the Office of Budget and Management in fulfilling their oversight responsibilities in the areas of financial reporting, internal controls and risk assessment, audit processes, and compliance with laws, rules and regulations. Members serve three-year terms.
Merchant, who has been involved in public finance law for more than 25 years, has worked on a wide variety of projects over his career, including health care, economic development and traditional issue transactions. His traditional issue work has focused on financings for schools, transportation, and water and sewer projects.
He is active in the community, serving on the boards of the Cincinnati Center City Development Corporation (3CDC), the Cincinnati Art Museum, and the Kentucky Science and Technology Corporation.
