MSU student working to join elite marine band

Aug. 15, 2012 — After seeing the “President’s Own” United States Marine Band perform for his music class at Hampton University in Hampton, Va., Kendall Guischard was determined to join the elite ensemble. To improve his craft, the college grad pursued a master’s degree in percussion and then packed his bags in September to join the Corps.

Now, nearly a year later, Lance Cpl. Kendall Guischard, 29, is an operator for Motor Transportation aboard Quantico, but his dream of being a part of the band still lives on.

Guischard, who grew up in Piscataway, N.J., has had a love for music since his childhood.

“Since I was young, I would always like to bang on things, so the drum set fit me best,” recalled Guischard.
