Ambrym Saxophone Quartet wins first place

Oct. 26, 2012 —

Morehead State University’s student ensemble, Ambrym Saxophone Quartet, won first place in the Kentucky Music Teachers National Association Chamber Music Competition at Morehead State University.

The group performed selections including transcriptions and original works.

Members are: Kyle Malone, Louisville junior; David Jump, Fort Thomas junior; Tyler Donathan, Barboursville, W.Va., junior; and Isaac Blevins, Portsmouth, Ohio, junior.

Malone also won the solo competition.

The group will advance to regional competition at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro, Jan. 18-21.

The quartet is coached by Dr. Masahito Sugihara, assistant professor of saxophone.
