    MOREHEAD – Billy Ryan Bays, son of Rachel Nicole Crum and Jason Ryan Bays of Olive Hill, Kentucky, joined the Heavenly Angels at birth on August 19, 2010, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.

    He is also survived by maternal grandparents, Charity Slone and Gary Crum, Jr. of Morehead, Kentucky, and paternal grandparents, Mary and Adam Cooper of Morehead, Kentucky, and Kenneth and Dawn Bays of St. Cloud, Florida; maternal great grandparents, Esther Nolte of Morehead, Kentucky, and Wilson Gene Black of Peasticks, Kentucky and Nina Thomas of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky; paternal great grandparents, Glenna and Ernie Bays of Olive Hill, Kentucky; maternal great-great grandmother, Gladys Black of Morehead, Kentucky; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

    He was preceded in death by paternal great grandparents, Emma and Billy Maggard.

    Funeral services were conducted 4 p.m. Sunday, August 22, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. David Bryant officiating. Burial was in the Jacobs Cemetery in Olive Hill, Kentucky.

    Visitation was from 3 p.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday, August 22, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Charles G. Cline

1936 - 2010


    MOREHEAD – Charles Grover “G.C.” Cline, age 73, of Heritage Place, formerly of Center Street, Morehead, KY, passed away Friday, August 20, 2010, at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, KY.

Charlie was born October 31, 1936, at Brinegar, KY, the son of John Allen Cline and Bessie Parish Cline, both of Sinking Creek in Elliott County, KY. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters; four brothers; maternal grandparents, Bill and Samantha Burton Parish; and paternal grandparents, Charles Levi and Elizabeth Brown Cline.

    Charlie is survived by daughter, Sandy Cline Hall and son-in-law Robert of Morehead, KY; son, Charles G. Cline, Jr. (Stoney) and daughter-in-law Karen of Rineyville, KY; three granddaughters, Sarah Hall Vivian and husband Jason of Chicago, IL; RhiAnna Hall Cristello and husband Justin of Walton, KY; and Kaitlyn Cline of Rineyville, KY; one grandson, Joshua Cline of Lexington, KY; and great grandsons, Charles W. “Evan” Cline of Rineyville, KY, Logan Charles Vivian of Chicago, IL, and soon to arrive Jaxsen Cristello of Walton, KY.

    In addition to his immediate family, G. C. is survived by two sisters-in-law, Joyce Evans Fitch of Fitch, KY, and Barbara Fitch Cline of Mansfield, OH; one brother-in-law and his wife, Jerry and Linda Evans of Mansfield, OH; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

    Charlie was an active member of the Brinegar Church of God. He was a veteran who served in the United States Air Force, retired from A.O. Smith in Mt. Sterling, KY, and was a volunteer at St. Claire Regional Medical Center for RSVP, the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. Charlie was nominated and named “Caregiver of the Year” by St. Claire’s Hospice and Pallative Care members in recognition of the 14 years of caring for his wife, ‘Junie’. He was a member of Morehead American Legion Post 126 and the 40 & 8 organization. He served several terms as President of the Local 2246 IBEW Union for A.O. Smith. Charlie truly enjoyed his position as a greeter at the Wal-Mart of Morehead, as this enabled him to do what he found great pleasure and enjoyment in and that was “visiting with people.”

    Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Monday, August 23, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Reverend Louie Harris, Reverend Elijah Waggoner, and the Reverend Victor Mabry of the Brinegar Church of God officiating. Music was provided by the Brinegar Church Singers.

    Burial was at Brown Cemetery with full military rites by Morehead American Legion Post 126.  Pallbearers were the family, Charles “Stoney” Cline, Joshua Cline, Justin Cristello, Roger Fitch, Robert Hall, and Jason Vivian.

    Visitation was Sunday, August 22, 2010, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Linda Mae Reynolds Conn

1946 – 2010


    MOREHEAD – Linda Mae Reynolds Conn, age 63, of Conn Road, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Friday, August 20, 2010, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.

    Born September 7, 1946, in Carter County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Davis and Linnie Trent Reynolds. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Glennis “Penny” Reynolds; one sister, Bertha Purnell; and a grandson, Anthony Ray Jervis. 

    Linda is survived by her husband Curtis “Ray” Conn; one son, Paul David Conn; and two daughters, Paula Diane Hovis and husband Tom and Kathy Lynn Holbrook and husband Randy, all of Morehead, Kentucky; nine grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren.

    She is also survived by three brothers, Jimmy Reynolds of Ashland, Kentucky, Tommy Reynolds of Olive Hill, Kentucky, and Bobby Joe Reynolds of Morehead, Kentucky; five sisters, Joyce Conn, Gracie Dehart and Pam Kissinger, all of Morehead, Kentucky, Kay Butler and Patty Mabry, both of Olive Hill, Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews.

    Linda was a devoted wife, mother, sister and mamaw. She formerly attended the Brinegar Church of God.

    Funeral services were conducted 11 a.m. Sunday, August 22, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Austin Carter and Rev. Louie Harris officiating. Burial was in the Conn Cemetery.

    Pallbearers were Josh Ferguson, James Conn, John Conn, Matthew Hovis, Joseph Holbrook, Eric Monroe and Brandon Hovis.

Ina Alletha McDaniel Cornett

1938 - 2010


    MOREHEAD – Ina Alletha McDaniel Cornett, age 71, of Swim Road, Clearfield, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, August 22, 2010, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.

    She was born October 14, 1938, in Rowan County, Kentucky, daughter of the late Arnold and Ann Skaggs McDaniel. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Cynthia Johnson; one brother, Gary McDaniel; and one sister, Betty Catron.

    She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Lloyd Frank Cornett, whom she married January 5, 1957; three children, Danny Cornett and Penny, Brenda Hamm and Bill, Theresa Bradley and Doug, all of Morehead; seven grandchildren, Amber Hamm Taulbee, Shane Hamm, Jeremy Cornett, Jordan Cornett, Samantha Bradley, and Emily Bradley, all of Morehead, Kentucky, and Joshua Johnson of Austin, Texas; and two great grandchildren, Jacob Taulbee and Sean Taulbee, both of Morehead, Kentucky.

    Also surviving are two brothers, Raymond McDaniel and Frank McDaniel, both of Morehead, Kentucky, and one sister, Alfreda Mullins of New Boston, Michigan.

    Ina was a homemaker and former employee of Bell Telephone Company. She served on the Gateway Area Development District Board of Directors, was a Girl Scout leader, a 4-H Council member and leader for more than 30 years, and a member of the Town and Country Homemakers Club. She attended the First Church of the Nazarene.

    Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, August 25, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Brian Farmer officiating. Burial will follow in the Clark Cemetery.

    Pallbearers will be Shane Hamm, Josh Johnson, Jeremy Cornett, Jordan Cornett, Austin Barker, Robert Wagoner, Rob Catron, Frank McDaniel, Frank Helwig, and Logan Lovely.

    Visitation is after 5 p.m. Tuesday, August 24, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Wendy Humphries Dunaway and Donavin Kelly

   
HILLSBORO – Wendy Dawn Humphries Dunaway, age 32, and two-year-old son, Donavin Constintine Vaughn Kelly, of Colfax Road, Hillsboro, passed away Friday, August 20, 2010, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Flemingsburg, Kentucky.

    Wendy was born July 10, 1978, in Rowan County, Kentucky, daughter of Donald and Margaret Curtis Humphries of Hillsboro, Kentucky.  She is also survived by one daughter, Carley Dunaway, at home; one brother, Dusty Dale Humphries and his wife Stacey and their children, Randell,  Emily, and Ryan,  of Wallingford, Kentucky; one sister, Taylor Humphries of Hillsboro, Kentucky; maternal grandparents, Clyde and Lodema Crawford Curtis of Hillsboro, Kentucky; and paternal grandmother, Gladys Hatfield Humphries of Flemingsburg, Kentucky. 

    Donavin was born January 9, 2008, in Clark County, Kentucky, son of Cody Alan Kelly of Peasticks, Kentucky, and the late Wendy Dawn Humphries Dunaway. In addition to his mother’s family and his father, Donavin is also survived by paternal grandparents, Vinson Clay Kelly and Jackie Valenti Kelly, both of Owingsville, Kentucky.

    Joint funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 24, 2010, at the Hutton Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Engle and Rev. Mike Burnett officiating.

    Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery.

    Pallbearers will be Billy Sapp, Doug Gulley, Ricky Humphries, Darry Burton, Kevin Lee, Travis Fawns, Donnie Fawns, Vinson Kelly, Mike Jones, Mark Doyle, and Joe Dunaway.

    Visitation is after 4 p.m. Monday, August 23, 2010, at the Hutton Funeral Home, Hillsboro, Kentucky.



Emmitt “Jack” Franklin Gearhart

1930 – 2010


    MOREHEAD – Emmitt “Jack” Franklin Gearhart, age 80, of Rawcel Heights, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, August 19, 2010, at his residence.

    Born March 17, 1930, in Carter County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Eddie and Antha Holbrook Gearhart. 

    Jack is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dorthy Louise Ferguson Gearhart, whom he married July 1, 1953; one son, Eddie Powell Gearhart of Morehead, Kentucky; two daughters, Debra Russell and husband Byrl of Morehead, Kentucky, and Donna Christian of Morehead, Kentucky; four grandchildren, James and Michael Christian and Wade and Lisa Clevenger; and four great grandchildren, Dylan and Daniel Clevenger, Aaron Christian and Kylee Evans.

    Mr. Gearhart served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. Jack was a people person who enjoyed singing, playing his guitar, and always seeing the best in everyone. He was an active member of Hayes Branch Community Church. 

    Funeral services were conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, August 21, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Phillip Fraley and Brother Don Rivers officiating. Burial was in Gearhart Cemetery in Olive Hill, Kentucky, with full military rites conducted by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126.

    Pallbearers were James Christian, Michael Christian, Wade Clevenger, Huey Evans, Dylan Clevenger, and Daniel Clevenger.

    Visitation was after 5 p.m. Friday, August 20, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Shelby Litton

1938- 2010


    MOREHEAD – Shelby Litton, age 72, of Windstar Lane, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, August 21, 2010, at her home.

    She was born April 29, 1938, in Elliott County, Kentucky, daughter of the late Ora Lee and Madge Opal Mays Carter.

    Shelby is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Art Litton, whom she wed on September 27, 1958; one son, Kevin Litton and wife Lisa of Morehead, Kentucky; one daughter, Anita Hendricksen and husband Mark of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky; and three grandchildren, Halle Alisabeth Litton, Carter Fraser Hendricksen and Lindsi Alivia Litton. 

    She is also survived by one sister, Regena Stone and husband Bernard of Morehead, Kentucky; two nieces, Angie White and Sheila Harmon; and dedicated caregivers, Leslie Martin, Teresa McRoberts, and Heidi Goldy.

    Following her graduation from Sandy Hook High School, Shelby began a secretarial career with Lee Clay Products Company in Clearfield, where Regena was also employed. Shelby later worked for Farm Bureau Insurance and Rowan Water, Inc. 

    Shelby enjoyed flower gardening, camping, and traveling. Her greatest joy, however, was derived from her family, especially spending time with the grandchildren. Shelby was a longtime member of the First Church of God, where she sang in the choir for many years.

    Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 24, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Allan Hutchinson officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

    Ushers of the church will serve as pallbearers.

    Visitation is after 5 p.m. Monday, August 23, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Herbert L. Perkins

1936 – 2010 

   
MOREHEAD – Herbert L. Perkins, age 74, of Warsaw, Kentucky, formerly of Shelby County, Kentucky, where he resided for 40 years, passed away Saturday, August 21, 2010, at Gallatin Health Care in Warsaw.

    Born July 5, 1936, in Rowan County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Clarence E. and Versie Riddle Perkins. 

    Besides his parents, Herbert was preceded in death by two brothers, Clell Perkins and William Milzie Perkins, and three sisters, Hazel Lewis, Lela Pearl Perkins and Anna Newman.

    Mr. Perkins is survived by the mother of his children, Rose Zell Crawford Perkins of Morehead, Kentucky; four children, Bradford and Sharon Perkins of Henry County, Kentucky, Kimberly Ann and Randy Oppenheimer of Richmond, Kentucky; Phillip S. and Donna Perkins of Shelbyville, Kentucky, and Anita J. and Kirk Martin of Gallatin, Tennessee; four grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

    Survivors also include four brothers, Millard Perkins and Cleo Perkins, both of Springfield, Ohio, Raymond Perkins of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, and Wilburn Perkins of Benton, Arkansas; two sisters, Olive Skaggs of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, and Grace Perkins of Worcester, Massachusetts; and several nieces and nephews.

    Herbert served in the U.S. Army and was a retired insurance salesman.

    Funeral services will be conducted 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 25, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Gary McQuain officiating. Burial will follow in the Jones Cemetery with full military rites conducted by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126.

    Pallbearers will be Clarence Crawford, Lee Roy Trent, Troy Perkins, Jerry Perkins, Tim Shelton, and Darrell Crawford.

Matthew William Smith

1970 – 2010


    MOREHEAD – Matthew William Smith, age 40, of Paris Lane, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, August 19, 2010, at the St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead, Kentucky.

    He was born March 30, 1970, in Piqua, Ohio, and was the son of the late Debra Kay Smith Wick. 

    Matthew is survived by his wife, Jenny Mabry Smith; three sons, Lance Smith, Bret Smith, and McKinnley Smith, all at home; his grandmother, Ruth V. Smith of Piqua, Ohio; and many other family members and friends.

    Matthew was a former security guard in Piqua, Ohio, and attended the Sharkey Free Will Baptist Church. He enjoyed watching Steelers football and spending time with his family.

    Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, August 22, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Rev. James Hickerson officiating.

Dewell Carter Stegall

1921 – 2010


    MOREHEAD – Dewell Carter Stegall, age 89, of Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, August 19, 2010, at the Elliott County Nursing & Rehab Center in Sandy Hook, Kentucky.

    Born August 3, 1921, in Elliott County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Wilford and Trien Tollier Stegall. Her husband, Clifton Raymond Stegall, passed away July 26, 2010.

    She is survived by three sons, Roger Eugene Stegall of Los Angeles, California, John Raymond Stegall of Columbus, Ohio, and Richard Lee Stegall of Lexington, Kentucky; one daughter, Rebecca Stegall Kimmons of San Antonio, Texas; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

    Other survivors include one brother, Bill Carter, and one sister, Ernie Foster, both of California.

    Mrs. Stegall was a homemaker and enjoyed traveling with her husband.

    At the family’s request, there will be no visitation or service.

Collin Trent Thomas

1977 – 2010


    America has lost a true military hero. Chief Special Warfare Operator Collin Trent Thomas, 33, died in Afghanistan, on August 18, 2010, fighting for the safety of our nation. He leaves behind family and friends who mourn his loss and celebrate his life. His distinguished career and ultimate sacrifice will be honored for generations to come.

    Collin was born, May 2, 1977, to Lt. Colonel, USMC (retired) Clayton Thomas and Paula Jean Trent Thomas. A native of Morehead, Kentucky, he graduated from Rowan County High School, in 1995. He went on to attend Morehead State University followed by a 1997 enlistment to serve in the U.S. Navy. An honored Navy SEAL, Collin received numerous awards and decorations during his 13-year Navy career including three Bronze Star Medals with “V” devices and a Purple Heart. He loved his SEAL Team brothers in arms and was honored to serve with them. They were his second family and closest friends. Additionally he will be remembered as a devoted son, brother and cousin with a passion for life and an adventurous nature that led him to become the exceptional man he was.

    He has joined his beloved grandparents - Atlee Trent and Ruben and Sybrina Thomas. He is survived by his parents, Clayton and Jean Thomas; sister Meghan and husband Richard Edwards; niece, Atlee Grace Edwards; grandmother, Norma Trent; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives, in the Thomas and Trent families, who will hold him in their hearts forever. In addition, he is survived by the woman who captured his heart, Sarah Saunders of Virginia Beach, VA, and Hagan “the monster dog” Thomas.

    A funeral service will be conducted 4 p.m. Saturday, August 28, 2010, at the Morehead State University Academic-Athletic Center with Chaplain Michael Shockley, CDR, USN officiating. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. prior to the service at the Academic-Athletic Center.

    Interment with full military honors will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Richard Lee Wallace

1961 – 2010


    MOREHEAD – Richard Lee Wallace, 48, of Horsley Road, passed away Saturday morning, August 21, 2010 at his home after an illness of several months.

    He was born on November 1, 1961 in Shelby, Ohio, a son of Regina Black Wallace of Clearfield, Kentucky and the late Melvin Wallace.

    He attended the East End Church of God.

    Richard was an Ironworker and the owner of American 1 Reinforcing. He enjoyed playing golf, riding his Harley-Davidson Motorcycle and spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

    Survivors include his mother, Regina Black Wallace of Clearfield, his fiancé, Rhonda Deitriech of Morehead, two sons, Richard Lee Wallace, Jr. and Travis Lee Wallace both of Morehead, one daughter, Valerie Denise Little and her husband, Matt of Salt Lick, four brothers, Thomas Wallace of West Liberty, Lloyd Wallace, James Wallace and Brian Osborne all of Morehead, four sisters, Valerie Utterback of Morehead, Angie Wallace of Lucerne, Indiana, Lee Crume of Monticello, Indiana and Amanda Cox of Mt. Sterling, twelve grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

    Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 24, 2010 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Maschino officiating. Burial will follow in the Richard Wallace Cemetery.

    Pallbearers will be Tommy Wallace, Mel Utterback, Josh Utterback, Robbie Wallace, Dusty Wallace, Dougie Wallace, William Wallace and Zachary Wallace and honorary pallbearers will be Steven Wallace, Davie Donathan, Wayne Maschino, Randy Forman, James Deitriech, John Deitriech and Roger Roe.
