Alton Bradley

1921-2009

DELAWARE - Alton Benjamin Bradley, born October 7, 1921 in Greenwood, DE, went to be with his Lord on July 22, 2009 with his wife of 61 years, Olivia Godwin Bradley by his side. He died peacefully at Crystal Bluffs in Morehead City, NC where he had lived since February 2009.

After retiring from 30 years in the US Army in 1970 he and his wife Olivia chose to retire to the State of Florida where they resided for many years. While in Florida he worked as a Postman in the St. Petersburg, FL area for 12 years. During his Army career he served in the European Theatre, the French Embassy, and Vietnam. His service to his country included serving as a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Division in Germany, the 82nd Airborne Division based out of Ft. Bragg, NC, the 504 the Airborne Infantry based out of Ft. Bragg, NC, and the 187th Airborne Combat Team serving in Japan.

He enjoyed golf, fishing and taxidermy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Davis Bradley and Mary Elizabeth Rickards. Surviving are two brothers Charles Rickards of Milford, DE and George Bradley of Fayetteville, Arkansas; two sisters Phyllis Clifton of Milton, DE and Jean Bradley Wilson of Wilmington, DE; nieces and nephews Cynthia Murray, Robert Bradley, Susan Popisil, Joe Wilson, Charlene Bradley, Albert Rickards, III, Ron Rickards, Mary Lisa Gede, Robert C. Clifton, Richard Clifton, and Belinda Burton.

Funeral services will be held Monday, July 27, 2009 at 12 Noon, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE with the Rev. William Hopkins officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday beginning at 11:00 AM. Interment with full military honors will follow at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE.

Larry Elwood Brown

1942 – 2009



MOREHEAD – Larry Elwood Brown, age 67, of Woodland Drive, Morehead, KY, passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at St. Joseph Hospital, Mt. Sterling, KY.



Larry was born on July 18, 1942, at Grayson, KY, in Carter County, son of Atlee Edgar and Lake Erie Blanche Parsons Brown. He grew up in Sandy Hook, KY, and graduated from Sandy Hook High School in 1959. In 1963, he met Barbara Appleby. They were married on August 11, 1963, in Somerset, KY, at the First Christian Church by Rev. L. D. Fisher.



Larry worked for the S.S. Kresge Co., Sears and Montgomery Ward. He graduated from Morehead State University in 1966. In 1967, he and Barbara opened a Montgomery Ward catalogue store in Somerset, KY. They sold the store and moved to Lexington, KY, where he became a District Manager for Wards. In 1969, they moved to Morehead, KY, where they opened another Montgomery Ward, beauty shop, and furniture store. Later, they sold these and opened other businesses that included several clothing stores, Radio Shack, and The Carousel Children’s Store. After selling these businesses, he worked for FEMA as an insurance adjuster. In 1980, he started building Brown’s Grocery, which opened in February, 1981. He and Barbara worked there seven days a week until they sold it on August 1, 2007.



Larry was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Robert Edgar Brown, who passed away in 1989.



In addition to his wife, Larry is survived by one son, Ricky Alan Brown and wife Teena of Louisa,

KY; one daughter, Tamela Christie Brown Buttry and husband Tony of Morehead, KY; and four grandchildren, Ricky Alan Brown II and wife Ashley, Vanessa Kellyn Brown, Emily Christeena Buttry, and Alston Wayne Buttry.



Also surviving are one niece, Cheri Lee Brown Reed; one nephew, Patrick Holbrook Brown; and a very special cousin that he called his sister, Sandra Ward Gilliam.



Larry was a member of the Sandy Hook Baptist Church. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, U.K. basketball, and movies. He loved to travel, even if it was just day trips. One of his favorite places to visit was Colorado.



Larry was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather.



Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, August 1, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. David Starcher officiating. Burial will follow in Elliott County Memory Gardens in Sandy Hook, KY.



Pallbearers will be Gary Coldiron, Roger Smith, Eddie Brown, Ken Skeans, Mike Atkins, and David Hylbert.



Honorary Pallbearers will be his many friends and former customers.



Visitation is after 5 p.m. Friday, July 31, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Lillian Jordan Lambert

1937 – 2009





MOREHEAD – Lillian Jordan Lambert, 71, of Heritage Place, passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2009 in the Life Care Center.



She was born on August 13, 1937 in Hazey, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Bruce Matt Jordan and Maude Opal Withrow Jordan.



Mrs. Lambert was a homemaker. She was of the Church of God Faith and enjoyed puzzles, cooking, gardening, crafts, art, drawing and spending time with her family.



In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donnie Mitch Lambert, who passed away on August 17, 1996 and two sisters, Carrie Ellen Jordan, who passed away in 1935 and Betty Jean Jordan, who passed away in 1942.



Survivors include cousins, Ernest Jordan of Morehead, Ina Horsley and Katherine Jordan both and Vanceburg, Jimmy Withrow and his wife, Ann of North Carolina and Lonnie Withrow of West Virginia, sisters-in-law, Diana Jenkins and her husband, Richard of Morehead and Sandra Pollock and her husband, Gayle of Flemingsburg, brother-in-law, Eugene Lambert of Clearfield, several special nieces and nephews and special friends at Heritage Place, Bea Chapman, Opal Bradley and Howard Gulley.



Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, July 30, 2009 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Rev. Harley Sexton, Jr. officiating. Burial was in the Bethel Cemetery in Olive Hill.

Pallbearers were family and friends.

Garry Lee McClurg

1947 – 2009



MOREHEAD – Garry Lee McClurg, age 61, of Heritage Place, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.



He was born September 23, 1947, in Richmond, Indiana, son of the late Clarence and Rosa Wooten McClurg.



He is survived by three sons, Terry Lear of Richmond, Indiana, John Damron of Ashland, Virginia, and Kevin McClurg of Morehead, Kentucky; three daughters, Tina Fellers of Indianapolis, Indiana, Kim Brown of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, and Kelly McClurg of Ashland, Virginia; one brother, James McClurg of Morehead, Kentucky; one sister, Wanda Pierce of Ewing, Kentucky; four grandchildren; one great granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.



Garry was a mechanic at Morehead Auto Parts.



Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, August 1, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Williams officiating.



Visitation is after 10 a.m. Saturday, August 1, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
