Clemence W. Elam Hall
1911-2009


MOREHEAD – Clemence W. Elam Hall, age 97, of Sabina, Ohio, formerly of Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, February 11, 2009, at Autumn Years Nursing Center in Sabina.

Born October 24, 1911, in Wrigley, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late John F. and Maude A. Hall Elam. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Ray Elam; three sisters, Irene Hamilton, Myrl Fannin, and Lenola Whitt; her first husband, Willie V. Whitt; her second husband, Emmitt J. Hall; one daughter, Colleene Silman; and one great grandchild, Heather Landess.

Mrs. Hall is survived by one daughter, Betty Jean Hill of Sabina, Ohio; five grandchildren, Greg (Cheryl) Hill of Dayton, Ohio, Pam McMann, Timothy (Laura) Hunter, Nathan Hunter, and John Silman, all of Flint, Michigan; two great grandchildren, Robin Uhrig and Andrew Blair; one niece, LaVera Sassar; one nephew, Farrell Fannin; and a special cousin, Glois (Wendell) Williams.

Mrs. Hall retired from Morehead State University and enjoyed senior citizens’ activities, flowers, and crocheting. She was a member of the Morehead First Freewill Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, February 14, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. David Starcher officiating. Burial will follow in the Adkins Cemetery, Wrigley, Kentucky, with Howard Lee Whitt officiating.

Visitation for Clemence Elam Hall is Saturday, February 14, 2009, from noon until 1 p.m. at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Helen Murphy Kennedy
1926-2009


MOREHEAD – Helen Murphy Kennedy, age 82, of Morris Road, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, February 12, 2009, at the Life Care Center in Morehead, Kentucky.

Born November 3, 1926, in Mansfield, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Helen Murphy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Kennedy; three brothers, Bobby Murphy, Jim Murphy and Dick Murphy; one sister, Margaret Mazza; and a granddaughter, Kerry Kennedy.

She is survived by one son, John Michael Kennedy of Mansfield, Ohio; two daughters, Paula Skaggs of Morehead, Kentucky, and Patty Howe of Mansfield, Ohio; one sister, Margie Beyerly of Finley, Ohio; eight grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

Mrs. Kennedy was a homemaker and of the Catholic faith.

There will be no local visitation or service. Burial will be in the Mansfield Cemetery, Mansfield, Ohio.

Richard Waldo Prince
1953-2009


MOREHEAD – Richard Waldo Prince, 55, of Hogtown passed away Monday, February 9, 2009 at his home.

He was born on July 16, 1953 at Hogtown in Rowan County, Kentucky, a son of the late Arthur and Dixie Crum Prince.

Mr. Prince was a former truck driver for the Rowan County Road Department and he was also a former maintenance worker for Morehead State University. Waldo was a Christian and had attended several different churches in the area. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, basketball and spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Jerry Michael Prince and two sisters, Betty Johnson and an infant sister.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Kathy Gilliam Prince, whom he married on May 3, 1974, of Hogtown, one son, James Prince and his wife, Barbara of Hogtown, two brothers, Tom Prince and his wife, Beatrice of Ypsilanti, Michigan and Fred Prince and his wife, Cheryl of Morehead, seven sisters, Clara Ramsey of Ypsilanti, Michigan, Grace Gulley and her husband, Carl of Muncie, Indiana, Geraldine Read of Anderson, Indiana, Essie Carroll, Beulah Crossland, Marlene Pankotai and her husband, Bob and Berniece Mabry and her husband, Clyde all of Morehead, brother-in-law, Sam Johnson of Ypsilanti, Michigan, sister-in-law, Linh Prince of Ypsilanti, Michigan, one grandson, Dakota Prince of Hogtown, three step-granddaughters, Erika Stokely, Whitley Barnett and Callie Turner and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Friday, February 13, 2009 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Kelly Wagoner officiating. Burial will follow in the Prince Family Cemetery at Hogtown.

Pallbearers will be John Skaggs, Gary Johnson, Troy Perkins, Brandon Johnson, Stanley Johnson, Clifton Gilliam, Harold Gilliam and Randy Wagoner.

Richard Smith
1921-2009


MOREHEAD – Richard Smith, age 87, of Shaker Road, Franklin, Ohio, passed away Sunday, February 8, 2009, at the Atrium Medical Center in Franklin, Ohio.

Born July 2, 1921, at Beauty, Kentucky, in Martin County, he was the son of the late Dillard and Katherine Sweeney Smith. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Jack Smith, William Smith, Sherman Smith, and George Smith; one sister, Arizona Metcalf; and his son, Gary Lee Smith.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 67 years, Geneva Kathryn Gee Smith; his two daughters, Carole Jean (Dan) McCaskill of Los Angeles, California, and Marilyn (Rick) Sorrell of Middletown, Ohio; his son, Ronnie Smith of Lutz, Florida; 4 grandchildren, Doug Smith, Angela Fierman, Rachael McCaskill, and Tiffany Thorson; 6 great granddaughters; and 1 great grandson.

Mr. Smith was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and retired from General Motors after 30 years of service. He enjoyed hunting with his beagles.

Funeral services were conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday, February 12, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Gary McQuain officiating.

Burial was in the Hayes Cemetery with full military rites conducted by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126.
