Donald Blythe
1939-2009


MOREHEAD – Donald Blythe, age 69, of Leisure Lane, Clearfield, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, February 14, 2009, at U.K. Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky.

He was born July 2, 1939, in Ironton, Ohio, and was the son of the late Andrew and Amelia Hughes Blythe. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Cynthia Mosier Blythe.

Survivors include one son, Donald Wade Blythe of Ashland, Kentucky; one daughter, Amelia Ann Blythe of Worthington, Kentucky; one granddaughter, Journey Ann Blythe, of Worthington, Kentucky; two brothers, Andrew J. Blythe of Sabina, Ohio and Smitty Lee Hughes of Russells Point, Ohio; and two sisters, Goldie White of Morehead, Kentucky, and Ruby Howell of Wellston, Ohio.

Mr. Blythe was a former employee of C & H Leather Company in Ashland, Kentucky, and attended Charity Free Will Baptist Church.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Charity Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Kidd officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Kip Edward Emrick
1963-2009


MOREHEAD – Kip Edward Emrick, age 46, of West Sun Street, Morehead, Kentucky, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, passed away Sunday, February 15, 2009, at the St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead, Kentucky.

He was born January 19, 1963, in Middletown, Ohio, and is the son of Dorothy “Dot” Potter Emrick of Middletown, OH, and the late Charles “Chuck” Emrick, who passed away in 2003.

In addition to his mother, Kip is survived by his wife, Michelle Kidd Emrick, whom he married July 28, 2001; one daughter, Rachel Miriah Alexandria Emrick at home; two sisters, Karen Bartel of Wausha, Wisconsin, and Kim Williams of Pendleton, Indiana; and six nephews.

Kip was a mortgage consultant for Unlimited Mortgage in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. He loved fishing, golf, music and sports.

Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Thursday, February 19, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor James Pollitte officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers: Randy Craft, Billy Kidd, Chuck Coomer, Jim Smith, Devin Williams, Tommy Bellaw, Jeff Connover, Sam Potter, Kevin Ledford, Jeff May, and Johnny Hall.

Visitation is after 5 p.m. Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the Rachel Emrick College Fund at the U. S. Bank, 122 E. Main Street, Morehead, KY 40351.

Dorothy Mae Hill Messer
1916-2009


MOREHEAD – Dorothy Mae Hill Messer, age 92, of White Street, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, February 12, 2009, at the Life Care Center in Morehead.

She was born November 28, 1916, in Huntington, West Virginia, daughter of the late Leroy and Dorothy Jonas Hill. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Brady Rose.

Her husband, Joseph “Joe” Messer, passed away on July 11, 1978.

Survivors include three daughters, Margaret May Withrow and Peggy Maze, both of Morehead, Kentucky, and Mary Lou Omohundro of Louisville, Kentucky; eleven grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter.

Also surviving are two brothers, Leroy Hill and wife Minnie and George Hill and wife Jean all of Morehead, Kentucky; one sister, Mary Day of Morehead, Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was a sales clerk at the Western Auto for over 40 years. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and spending time with family and friends. She was a member of the Morehead First Freewill Baptist Church.

Funeral services were conducted 1 p.m. Sunday, February 15, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. H. G. Pratt officiating. Burial was in Lee Cemetery.

Grandchildren served as pallbearers.

Visitation was Saturday, February 14, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Shirley Ann Adkins Owens
1943-2009


MOREHEAD – Shirley Ann Adkins Owens, age 65, of Halifax Drive, Lexington, Kentucky, passed away Friday, February 13, 2009, at U.K. Samaritan Hospital in Lexington.

Born September 24, 1943, in Carter County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Donald William Adkins, Sr. and Joyce Alene Salyers Adkins.

Survivors include one son, Lloyd Lee Owens, Jr., of Morehead, one daughter, Kimberly Ann Owens Hess of Lexington, Kentucky, and three granddaughters, Christina Owens, Alisha Owens, and Holly Ann Sweeney.

Also surviving are one sister, Janis Kay Owens of Lexington, Kentucky, and two brothers and their wives, Charles Gary and Mary Sue Reynolds Adkins of Elliottville, Kentucky, and Donald William, Jr. and Peggy Lynn Maschino Adkins of Lexington, Kentucky.

Mrs. Owens was a homemaker and part-time school assistant. She was a member of the Church of God.

Funeral services will be conducted 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 17, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Gayle Price officiating. Burial will follow in the Bradley Cemetery in Carter County.

Pallbearers will be Roger Craig Owens, Kyle Adkins, Donald William Adkins III, Anthony Spencer, Ash Spencer, and Jerry Maschino.

Visitation is after 5 p.m. Monday, February 16, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Edith Evelyn Slusher Perry
1947-2009


MOREHEAD – Edith Evelyn Slusher Perry, age 61, of Oak Grove Road, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, February 15, 2009, at her residence.

She was born December 9, 1947, in Rowan County, Kentucky, and was the daughter of the late Wayne and Dorothy Mae Blankenbeckler Slusher. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Jean Ramey.

Mrs. Perry is survived by her husband, Oliver Perry; one daughter, Carol Cecil and husband Gary Allen of West Liberty, Kentucky; one grandson, Austin Allen Cecil of West Liberty, Kentucky; and one brother, Bill Slusher of Clay City, Kentucky.

She was a former employee of Cowdens Manufacturing Company, Imperial Cleaners, and Morehead State University. She attended the Slab Camp Christian Church.

Private family visitation and service will be conducted 3 p.m. Tuesday, February 17, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. H. G. Pratt officiating. Burial will take place in the Perry Cemetery, Oak Grove Road, Morehead, Kentucky.

Pallbearers will be Austin Allen Cecil, Arlie Perry, Gerald McKinney, Ricky Perry, Bill

Slusher, and Larry Jennings.
