Jane Yarbrough Duncan
1923-2009


MOREHEAD – Jane Yarbrough Duncan, age 85, of North Wilson Avenue, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2009, at her residence.

Born August 12, 1923, in Elkmont, Alabama, Jane was the daughter of the late Charles A. and India Redus Yarbrough. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Martha and Ruby.

Survivors include her husband of 64 1/2 years, Dr. Johnson Eugene Duncan, whom she wed August 4, 1944; one daughter, Dianne Gowin and her husband Ray of Marion, Ohio; one son, Charles Eugene (Chuck) Duncan and his wife Mary of Lexington, Kentucky; and one sister, Mary Irwin of Decatur, Alabama.

Other survivors include four grandchildren, Steven (Enola) Jones, Paul (Laura) Jones, Matthew Duncan, and Katherine Duncan, and three great granddaughters, Tereasa, Amanda, and Lydia Jones.

Jane received her bachelor’s degree from Northern Alabama University and her master’s degree from Morehead State University. Mrs. Duncan retired from Rowan County High School, where she taught English and history for 18 years. She was a wonderful cook and talented seamstress and loved to read, travel, play golf, and dance. For many years, Jane was a volunteer with St. Claire Medical Center Auxiliary, where she particularly enjoyed working in the Gift Shop. A member of the Morehead United Methodist Church, Jane participated in the Builder’s Sunday School Class, United Methodist Women, and Mary Martha Circle. She was a beloved teacher, friend, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, March 28, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Bruce Nettleton and Dr. Jack Ellis officiating. Burial will follow in Lee Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Dr. C. Nelson Grote, Jack Collis, Dan Mason, Allen Lake, Dr. John Philley and grandsons Paul Jones, Steven Jones, and Matthew Duncan.

Visitation is from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, March 27, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
