Oma Marie ‘Moe’ (Caudill) Dailey
1918-2009

FLORIDA - Oma Marie “Moe” (Caudill) Dailey, 90, died Monday, June 8, 2009 in Eustis, Florida. She was born at Blue Banks in Fleming County, Kentucky on November 26, 1918.

Oma married Joseph Daniel “Crow” Dailey, from Cynthiana. At that time, she was working at the Dixie Grill in Morehead, and he was working for the CCCs in Clearfield.

Their first date was a movie at the Cozy Theater. It cost 15 cents to get in. When the couple “eloped” to Blue Stone the next year, Justice-of-the-Peace Jim Rose married them right in the middle of his beer joint. That was April 12, 1937.

The couple had quite a life together in Morehead. They survived the great flood of 1939. They built and ran the Dairy Mart Restaurant on West Main Street as well as several other thriving businesses during the 1940s. And, after rearing two children, William “Bill” Dailey and Joretta Ann Dailey Caprio, they retired to Eustis, Florida in 1956.

Oma Dailey was the daughter of Eva Ellen (Shields) and W.M. “Willie” Caudill. Oma’s husband, Joe Dailey, died in 2000. Also, preceding her in death were her brothers Arvel Caudill, Stanley Caudill, Tommy Caudill, and sister Ruby Caudill Bussell.

She is survived by her only remaining sibling Rose Caudill Simpson, her two children, three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Moe Dailey touched lives everywhere she went and will be greatly missed by her many relatives and friends. She will be buried next to her husband at Greenwood Cemetery. Services will be held this weekend at Hamlin & Hilbish Funeral Home in Eustis, Florida.

Memorial donations should be made to the American Heart Association.
