Carl Denver Roe
1930-2008


MICHIGAN – Carl Denver Roe, 78, of Ypsilanti, Mich., passed away Sunday, September 21, 2008 at his home following an extended illness. He was born May 21, 1930 in Rowan County, KY, the son of Charles and Lula (Skaggs) Roe.

On July 25, 1949, he married Iva Jean Dyer in Salyersville, KY and she survives. Carl was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Ypsilanti. In 1985, he retired from the Ypsilanti Township Fire Department after 25 years of service. He volunteered with the Fire Department before being hired by them. He also worked for Ford Motor Company for 13 years before he went to the fire department. He loved carpentry and built his homes and he also loved his garden. Denver loved his family and truly enjoyed his grandchildren. He was a very generous and giving man, always helping anyone in need.

In addition to his loving wife of 59 years, other survivors include: one daughter, Connie (James) McCasey of Saline; one son, Rev. Donald (Leisa) Roe of Clarks Summit, PA; five grandchildren, Beverly (Denny) Moyer, Brian (Maggie) McCasey, Robert McCasey, Gavin Roe and Hannah Roe; three great-grandchildren, Drew and Brooke Moyer and Cameron McCasey; three sisters, Murrell (William) Perkins of Morehead, KY, Marie (Benny) Reffett of Union City, IN and Dorene (Tom) Eldridge of Hamilton, OH; five brothers, Noah (Hildrith) of Elliottville, KY, Eldon (Juanita) of Elliottville, KY, Garland (Geraldine) of Winchester, KY, Franklin of Ypsilanti and Charles (Sue) of Springfield, OH; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Glenn and Edgar.

The funeral service was at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 26, 2008 at Calvary Baptist Church, 1007 Ecorse Road, Ypsilanti with Rev. Donald Roe officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery, Chelsea. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Kellogg Eye Center.
