George Russell Black
1945-2008


MOREHEAD – George Russell Black, 63, of Fleming Fork Road – Olive Hill, Kentucky passed away Monday, December 8, 2008 in the King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.

He was born on November 19, 1945 in Rowan County, Kentucky, a son of the late Edd and Ada Knipp Black.

Mr. Black was a carpenter and he enjoyed working and spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Cledis Earl Black, Edd Black, Jr. and Hershel Black and two sisters, Thelma Engle and Georgie Black.

Survivors include one son, Randall Black and his wife, Amy of Olive Hill, three brothers, Ora Black of Richmond, Indiana, Charles Black of Morgan County and Harold Gene Black of Morehead, four sisters, Maxine Harris of Clarksville, Tennessee, Janice Mynard of Mansfield, Ohio, Leola Fields of Culver, Indiana and Regina Wallace of Morehead, four grandchildren, Sandra R. Black, Sabrina K. Black, Samantha D. Black and Roy L. Black, his companion, Connie Black, Caleb Cade, whom he raised and loved like a son, his former wife and the mother of his son, Emily Black and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Friday, December 12, 2008 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Rev. Winston McClurg officiating. Burial will follow in the Black Cemetery at Sharkey.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Linda Gregory Johnson
1917-2008


MOREHEAD - Linda Johnson, 91, of 1823 KY 519, Morehead, KY, passed away Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008 at her residence surrounded by her family and friends. Born Sept. 3, 1917 in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late John W. and Mary Ellen Gregory. She was preceded in death by her husband Joe Dickie Johnson and six sons, Glendon Ray Johnson, Kenneth Clay Johnson, Ronald Lee Johnson, Douglas Dean Johnson, Gary Ivo Johnson and Michael Anthony Johnson.

She is survived by three sons, Rex Johnson (Helen), Raymond Johnson (Jan), Ernie Johnson (Barb) and one daughter, Carolyn Brown (Paul), and daughters-in-law, Virgie Buckley, Patricia Johnson, Jeanie Johnson and Joy Johnson, several grandchildren, Sandy Johnson, Victoria Walker, Ellie Melon, Johnny Johnson, Deana Wall, Jeffery Eldridge, Nathan Eldridge, Christy May and April Perkins, and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was an active member for many years in the Senior Citizens. She enjoyed spending most of her time with her children and was best known as Mammy or Aunt Boots to many people.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, Dec. 14 at 2 p.m. at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. James DeAtley officiating.

Visitation is after 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Ditney Ridge Cemetery.

Stanley Ray Kiser
1943-2008


MOREHEAD – Stanley Ray Kiser, age 64, of Miller Lane in Morehead, passed away Wednesday evening, December 3, at his residence.

He was born December 18, 1943 in Carter County, a son of the late Earl Kiser and Stella Stevens Kiser Dixon.

Stanley was self-employed construction worker and served his country during the Vietnam Conflict with the United States Army.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Donald Jay Kiser, Clay Dixon and Michael Dixon.

He is survived by two sons, Shannon Kiser of Midland, Michigan and John David Kiser of Georgetown; two daughters and a son-in-law, Renee and Mike Schulte of Constantine, Michigan and Susannah Kiser of Morehead; six grandchildren; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Dale and Diane Dixon, Merle “Joe” Dixon, Jr., all of Charlotte, Michigan, Tim and Gwen Dixon of Greenup; one sister and brother-in-law, Star and Doug Buckner of Olive Hill; he also leaves other family members and friends who will sadly mourn his passing.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Sunday, December 7, at the Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill with Brother Darrell Gallihue officiating. Burial followed in the Kiser Cemetery on Highway 986 in Olive Hill.

Shannon Kiser, John David Kiser, Tim Dixon, Joey Dixon, Davin Dixon, Jeremy Dixon and Jack Buckner served as pallbearers.

Lucy Emma Sexton Moore
1917-2008


MOREHEAD - Lucy Emma Sexton Moore, age 91, of Dehart Road, West Liberty, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, December 9, 2008, at the Elliott Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sandy Hook, Kentucky.

She was born September 12, 1917, at Craney Creek in Rowan County, Kentucky, and was one of 19 children of the late James Willis (John Will) Sexton and Myrtle Perry Sexton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Billy Moore on June 3, 1961, and Donald O. Moore on April 13, 1994.

Lucy’s husband of 65 years, Ora Cecil Moore, whom she wed March 18, 1936, passed away March 27, 2001.

Survivors include two sons, James Cecil Moore and wife Barbara of Blairs Mill, Kentucky, and Bobby Allen Moore and wife Linda of Springtown, Texas; and one sister, Geneva Metzger and husband John of Dunkirk, New York.

Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, including her oldest grandchild, Donna Sargent and husband Tony, her caregivers, with whom she resided for many years in Blairs Mill, Kentucky; 34 great grandchildren; and 11 great-great grandchildren.

Lucy was a homemaker, self-taught artist, and musician who also enjoyed the great outdoors, reading, and working in flowers. She was a member of the Lower Licking Freewill Baptist Church. A beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, she will be missed by all.

Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, December 13, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Max Molihan and Robert Allen Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the Day Cemetery at Blairs Mill, Kentucky. Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

Allan Perkins
1955-2008


MOREHEAD - William Allan Perkins III, age 53, of Jackson Drive, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, December 10, 2008, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky.

Born April 4, 1955, in Charlottesville, Virginia, he is the son of William Allan Perkins, Jr. of Deltaville, Virginia and Ann Patterson Perkins of Charlottesville, Virginia.

Survivors include his wife, Emma Gillespie Perkins; one son, Taylor Portsmouth of Morehead, Kentucky; one daughter Ariel Perkins of Morehead, Kentucky; and one grandson, Gabriel Portsmouth.

Also surviving are two brothers, Howell Perkins of Richmond, Virginia, and Channing Perkins of Glenn Allen, Virginia; and one sister, Wendy Winkler of Charlottesville, Virginia; and three nephews, Ryan Winkler, William and Chan Perkins.

Allan was a graduate of Eckerd College with a BA in English. He was an investor, a poet and active in community service. Allan was the website administrator for the People To People organization and the Kentucky Art Association. He was a very dedicated volunteer for the Morehead State University Art Department and the Rowan County Speech Team. He was a member of the St. Alban’s Episcopal Church.

Funeral Services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, December 14, 2008, at the St. Alban’s Episcopal Church. Burial will follow in Ginter Cemetery in Menifee County.

Pallbearers will be Harry Gillespie, Taylor Portsmouth, Howell Perkins, Channing Perkins, Keith Winkler, and Bob Franzini.
