Shirley Poe Holland
1943 – 2010
MT. STERLING – Shirley Poe Holland, age 66, of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, August 18, 2010, at her residence.
Born December 26, 1943, in Magoffin County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late, Kellie and Carrie Bailey Holland. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James “J. D.” Poe, and one brother, Cread Holland.
She is survived by two sons, James Kellie (Ellen) Poe and Michael (Rhonda) Poe; one brother, Clinton (Rose) Holland; one sister-in-law, Betty Holland, all of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky; and a special cousin, Printha Poe of Salyersville, Kentucky.
Shirley was retired from Jockey International in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky. She was a member of the Freedom Church of God and the Order of the Eastern Star, Mt. Sterling Chapter 464.
Funeral services will be conducted 9:30 a.m. Saturday, August 21, 2010, at the Freedom Church of God with Millard Anderson and William “Hoss” Prater officiating. Burial will follow in Machpelah Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Dale Holland, Eddy Williams, Roger Spencer, Van Hurst, Tommy Prater, and Wally Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Kelsey Holland, Andrew Holland, Aaron Holland, Aiden Holland, and Asher Holland.
Visitation is after 5 p.m. Friday, August 20, 2010, at the Freedom Church of God, 3600 Levee Road, Mt. Sterling, Kentucky.

Atlee Glennith “Ginnie” Parsons
1941 – 2010
MOREHEAD – Atlee Glennith “Ginnie” Parsons, 69, of Elliottville, passed away Monday, August 16, 2010 in the St. Claire Regional Medical Center.
He was born on June 4, 1941 in Elliott County, Kentucky, a son of the late Charlie and Maudie Crum Parsons.
Mr. Parsons was an employee of Homer Gregory Company. He enjoyed gardening, yard work and spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Kendall Lee Parsons, who passed away on June 13, 2004 and two brothers, Charles Parsons, Jr. and Dollsey Parsons.
Survivors include his wife, Christine Trent Parsons, whom he married on January 12, 1963, one daughter, Cathy Johnson and her husband, John of Morehead, one sister, Ruth Nickell of May’s Lick, two grandchildren, Tella Johnson and John Michael Johnson and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, August 19, 2010 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Rev. Ray Glover officiating. Burial was in the Parsons Family Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Daniel Howard, Jason Brown, Josh Howard, Shawn Adkins, Sammy Adkins and Ray Dehart.

Charles Elliott Skaggs
1937 – 2010
MOREHEAD – Charles Elliott Skaggs, age 72, of Olive Hill, Kentucky, peacefully entered the loving arms of his Savior on Tuesday, August 17, 2010, at residence of his son on McBrayer Road, Clearfield.
Born October 13, 1937, in Elliott County, Kentucky, Charles was the son of the late Emmitt and Edith Simmon Skaggs. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William Humphrey Skaggs and Lonnie Ray Skaggs; two sisters, Audrey Cox and Pauline Cox; one half brother, Johnny Skaggs; one half sister, Fay Wice; and two sons, Kendell Skaggs in 1973 and Randell Skaggs in 1978.
His wife of 53 years, Jewell Dean Blankenbeckler Skaggs, entered the loving arms of her Savior on July 19, 2008.
He is survived by four sons, Donald Skaggs and wife Paula of Morehead, Kentucky, Ronald “Jay” Skaggs and wife Patti of Clearfield, Kentucky, Charles “Darren” Skaggs and wife Vickie of Elliott County, Kentucky, and Wendell Skaggs and wife Nikki of Morehead, Kentucky; 22 grandchildren including Randall Jay whom he raised; and 21 great grandchildren.
Other survivors include one brother, Robert Skaggs of Carter City, Kentucky; three half brothers, Jackie Skaggs and Jimmie Skaggs both of Michigan, and Benny Skaggs of Missouri; four sisters, Anna Pearl Oakley of Mansfield, Ohio, Myrtle Slusher of Red Bird, Kentucky; Hallie Hatfield of Hudson, Florida, and Mary Ellen Oakley of Carter City, Kentucky; four half sisters, Barbara Jean Mays of Sandy Hook, Kentucky, Arlene White of Morehead, Kentucky, Jannie Blevins of Lexington, Kentucky, and Susie Townsend of Michigan; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Skaggs was a former plant supervisor at Wickes Lumber in Mansfield, Ohio, and also a carpenter. While living in Mansfield, he was a deacon at the Bethel Free Will Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, August 20, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Rev. Austin Carter officiating. Burial will follow in the Skaggs Cemetery in Sandy Hook, Kentucky.
Pallbearers will be Chris Skaggs, Jesse Skaggs, Kyle Skaggs, Michael Skaggs, Tyler Skaggs, and Joshua Skaggs.
Honorary pallbearers will be the grandchildren.

Patricia Tapp
SOMERSET - Patricia Sue Tapp, formerly Pickles, passed away on Tuesday, August 17, 2010, at her residence in Somerset, Kentucky, following a lengthy and determined fight with cancer. She was 48. Patty was born in Livonia, Michigan, to Donald and Carol Pickles. She attended high school in Crestwood, Kentucky and received her Bachelor of Arts from Morehead State University in 1984. Patty served in the 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, following her commission in the regular U.S. Army in 1984.
Patty worked with troubled children within the Pulaski County school system until 2007. She loved them all. Patty was a frequent volunteer for community and charitable activities and un-hesitantly gave of herself wherever she was needed.
Patty is survived by her husband, David, and their three daughters, Katherine Elizabeth, Adrian Johanna, and Morgan Hunter, her parents, and her brother, Michael. Patty was kind and generous, a friend to all, and will be sorely missed by all who had the good fortune to know her.
Visitation was conducted Thursday, August 19 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Somerset First United Methodist Church, followed by a memorial service at 5:30 p.m. Patty will be interred Friday, August 20 with honors at a private service at the Mill Springs National Cemetery in Nancy, Kentucky. Arrangements are handled by Somerset Undertaking & Crematory. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Hospice of Lake Cumberland.

Naomi Doris Webb Whitt
MOREHEAD – Naomi Doris Webb Whitt of Clearfield, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 17, 2010.
She was born in Mansfield, Ohio, a daughter of the late Rev. Wallace L. and Pernie Littleton Webb.
Mrs. Whitt was retired from Morehead Youth Development Center where she was a business teacher. She enjoyed genealogy research, spending time with family and friends and most of all religious activities.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard M. Whitt.
Survivors include her children, Susan Maxey and her husband, John of Hillsboro and Randy Whitt of Cincinnati, Ohio, grandsons, John Dilan Maxey and Weston David Maxey, her brother, Ralph Webb of Solider and sisters, Anita Musser of Burke, Virginia and Pamela McClurg of Hillsboro.
Private graveside services were conducted at the Brown Cemetery with Rev. Ray Glover officiating.
Pallbearers were John Maxey, Ralph Webb, Ken Musser, Zachary McClurg, Michael Webb, Jeremiah Fuoss and Brian Fuoss.
A gathering of family and friends to celebrate her life will be at 2:00 P.M. Friday, August 20, 2010 at the East End Church of God Fellowship Hall.
