Anna Mae Ellis Earley
1923 -2010
MOREHEAD - Mrs. Anna Mae Ellis Earley, Age 87 of 421 Cecil Drive, Morehead, passed away Thursday evening, August 5, 2010 at her home after an extended illness.
She was born in Rowan County, Kentucky on April 12, 1923 to the late John and Mary Alderson Ellis.
Mrs. Early was a retired bookkeeper and executive secretary. She had worked at several area businesses and retired from the Morehead Treatment Center. She was a member of the Clearfield Tabernacle First Church of God, a graduate of Morehead High School and enjoyed working in flowers, sewing and fishing.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by three brothers, Davis Ellis, Lon Ellis and George Ellis. Three sisters, Thelma Ellington, Peaches Cecil and Julia Day.
Survivors include her husband Edward Norton Earley. One daughter, Pam Early Zorens and her husband Bob of Bronston, Kentucky. Four grandchildren, David Zorens, Frederick Zorens, Steven Zorens and Kimberly Shephard. Three great-grandchildren, Richie Heimbrock, Amber Brown and Brittni Kalfus and one Great-Great-Grandson Benjamin Brown. Three nephews, Dr. Jack Ellis, Charles Ellington and Ronald Ellington. Three nieces, Jewell Moore, Hazel Pennock and Peaches Cooper. Brother-in-law Don Earley and sister-in-law Maxine Milner. Also surviving are three very special friends, JoAnn Sturgill, Cathy Reddicks and Billie Jo Lambert.
Funeral services were conducted 2:00 P.M. Sunday, August 8, 2010 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Clark and Dr. Jack Ellis officiating.
Burial was in the Lee Cemetery.
Visitation was Saturday evening August 7, 2010 at the funeral home.
Pallbearers were David Zorens, Fritz Zorens, Don Earley, Garland Earley, John Ellis and Dr. Jeff Ellis.

Teresa K. Ross Gallagher
1951 – 2010
MOREHEAD – Teresa K. Ross Gallagher, age 58, of Ringos Mill Road, Hillsboro, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, August 5, 2010, at the St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead, Kentucky.
Born October 1, 1951, at Ewing, Kentucky in Fleming County, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Mae Jones Ross. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Tommy Ross, and three sisters, Delores Gallagher, Betty LaForce, and Juanita M. Ross.
Teresa is survived by her husband, Gene C. Gallagher; two sons, Terry Gallagher of Gilroy, California, and Patrick Gallagher of Hillsboro, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Felicia Gallagher, Matthew Gallagher, and Nolan Gallagher; and one brother, Claude Ross of Hillsboro, Kentucky.
Teresa was a homemaker.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, August 9, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. John Ray Dodson officiating. Burial will follow in the Goddard Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Larry Evans, Charlie Evans, Mark Evans, Tony Evans, Josh Ross and Clarence Gallagher.

Chase Thomas Phillips
2010 – 2010
MOREHEAD – Chase Thomas Phillips, infant son of Brad and Mary Greeley Phillips of Clearfield, Kentucky, passed away at birth on August 3, 2010, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.
Besides his parents, other survivors include two sisters, Ashley Phillips and Taylor Phillips, both at home; maternal grandmother, Christine Greeley of Clearfield, Kentucky; and paternal grandfather, Bill Phillips of Clearfield, Kentucky.
Private graveside services will be conducted 3 p.m. Wednesday, August 11, 2010, at Clearfield Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
Mike Roberts
1956 - 2010
OWINGSVILLE – James Michael “Mike” Roberts, age 54, of Fox Cliff Road, Owingsville, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, August 4, 2010.
He was born April 8, 1956, in Welch, West Virginia, the son of James Nelson and Carletta Jean Burchett Roberts of Wellington, Kentucky.
In addition to his parents, Mike is survived by his wife, Marsha Standifer Roberts; one son, Cody James Roberts of Beijing, China; one daughter, Melanie Lena Ellingsen and husband Eric John of Glen View, Illinois, and one step granddaughter, Jessie Ellingsen.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Donna Sue Roberts, and one brother, Brian Keith Roberts.
Mike was a 1976 graduate of Lincolnway High School in New Lenox, Illinois, and worked for a number of years as a cabinet maker at Tri-Star Cabinet Company in New Lenox.
Mike especially enjoyed fishing, bluegrass and gospel music, and visiting with friends. He loved his family and derived the greatest joy from them. Mike attended Salt Lick Free Will Baptist Church.
Pallbearers were Kenny Terrell, Bobby Tackett, Wallace Rogers, Jerry Adkins, Leslie Viars, Bo Sparks, and Bill Cummings.
Funeral services were conducted 3 p.m. Saturday, August 7, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Andy Lands officiating. Burial was in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Leroy (PeeWee) Sparks
1944 – 2010
MOREHEAD – Leroy (PeeWee) Sparks, age 66, of Soldier, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, August 7, 2010, at his residence.
He was born April 28, 1944, in Carter County, Kentucky, son of the late Samuel Justice and Christine Brinegar Sparks. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Bonnie and Gracie Sparks.
PeeWee is survived by his wife, Evelyn Gilbert Sparks; one son; Leroy Junior Sparks, of Rowan County, Kentucky; seven daughters, Angie Henderson of Salt Lick, Kentucky, Elizabeth Sparks, Connie Jo Sparks, Vickie Bair and Denise Sparks, all of Soldier, Kentucky, and Lorie Waddell and Gail Dermon, both of Morehead, Kentucky; 16 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.
Other survivors include two brothers, Mack Sparks of Morehead, Kentucky, and Ross Sparks of Olive Hill, Kentucky; four sisters, Susie Baer of Morehead, Kentucky, Donna Reynolds and Joy Henderson, both of Olive Hill, Kentucky, and Betty Enix of Lewis County, Kentucky.
PeeWee was a former construction worker, an honest man, and loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 10, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother Mike Atkins officiating. Burial will follow at the McKenzie Mountaintop Cemetery in Grahn, Kentucky.
Pallbearers will be Bryan Sparks, Brandon Henderson, Brent Stinson, Roger Waddell, Phillip Henderson, Michael Adams, Bo Sparks, and Leroy Junior Sparks.

Wayne Lewis Sturgill
1919 - 2010
MOREHEAD – Wayne Lewis Sturgill, age 91, of U.S. 60 East, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, August 8, 2010, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.
He was born June 16, 1919, in Rowan County, Kentucky, and was the son of the late Albert and Matilda “Tillie” Hamilton Sturgill.
His wife of 61 years, Pauline Sparks Sturgill, preceded him in death on September 2, 2007.
Mr. Sturgill is survived by one son, Ralph Sturgill of Morehead, Kentucky, and one sister, Violet Katherine Littleton of Apex, North Carolina.
Mr. Sturgill served his country in the U.S. Army and was a retired barber. He graduated from the Cincinnati College of Barbering in 1952 and served his apprentice with Jack Frost in Bethel, Ohio. He worked with Forrest Hardin and was a partner with Carl Sizemore, James Lambert, and Tab Golihue in Morehead. In 1961, he became the owner and operator of Sturgill’s Barber’s Shop at Hayes Crossing until his retirement in 2005.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 11, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Lloyd Dean officiating. Burial will follow in New Sill Cemetery with full military rites by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126.
Pallbearers will be Harry Sparks, Ben Jackson, Bill Hall, Danny Lewis, Butch Hatton, Matthew Lewis, and Chad Sparks.

William (Bill) R. Tufts
1939 -2010
MOREHEAD - Mr. William R. (Bill) Tufts, Age 70 of 252 Veterans Lane, Morehead, passed away Friday, August 6, 2010 at his home after a brief illness.
He was born in Floyd County, Kentucky on September 5, 1939 to the late William S. and Lucille Smith Tufts.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Richard Tufts.
Mr. Tufts was retired from General Telephone Company where he worked as a installer/repairman. He was also an Artist and Sign Painter. Mr. Tufts was a Kentucky Colonel, a member of the Elliottville Fire Department and enjoyed woodworking, painting, motorcycles, aviation and wine-making as a hobby.
He was also a veteran of the United States Army.
For many years he was an American Red Cross Blood Donor and had over the years donated over 25 gallons of blood.
Survivors include his wife Martha Jones Tufts who he married on December 28, 1968. One daughter, Sharon Purnell of Morehead and one son Tom Tufts of Fleming County.
One brother Terry Tufts of Melvin, Kentucky and Two sisters, Evelyn Bunting of Salvisa, Kentucky and Lenora Weaver of Washington Court House, Ohio.
Six grandchildren and several other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted 11:00 A.M. Sunday in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Rev. Clayton Hanshaw officiating.

Military rites were conducted immediately after the funeral service Sunday at the funeral home by the Morehead American Legion Post No. 126.
Graveside services were conducted 1:00 P.M. Monday at the Jones Family Cemetery on Riley's Branch in Bevinsville, Kentucky with Terry Issac officiating.
Pallbearers were Wayne Johnson, James Oney, Eddie Horton, Kenneth Adkins, Kenny Adkins, Aaron Riggsby and Ethan Johnson.

Walter “Brent” Whitton
1949 – 2010
HILLSBORO – Walter “Brent” Whitton, age 60, of Clearwater, Florida, formerly of Hillsboro, Kentucky, passed away July 27, 2010, in Bay Pines, Florida.
Born August 16, 1949, in Maysville, Kentucky, he was the son of the late John Matthew and Mary Ruth Wells Whitton.
Brent is survived by his wife, Sarah Lewis Whitton, whom he wed January 29, 1971, in Wallingford, Kentucky; two daughters, Dr. Shannon Egleston and Summer Whitton, of Clearwater, Florida; one sister, Michelle Stout of Danville, Illinois; one granddaughter, Abriana Natasha Egleston, and three grandsons, Steven Tyler Whitton, Vincent Alexander Whitton, and Zane Bradley Egleston, all of Clearwater, Florida.
Other survivors include Sarah’s brothers and sisters, J. W. and Lou Lewis and Wayne and Doni Lewis of Hillsboro, Kentucky, and Betty and Jimmy Hamilton and Danny and Edie Lewis of Wallingford, Kentucky, as well as other devoted family members.
Brent, a graduate of Morehead State University, served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He was a GTE employee for 26 years and worked in several locations including Fleming, Rowan, and Carter counties. For the past several years, he and Sarah resided in Clearwater, Florida. Brent was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Clearwater.
A memorial service will be held August 14, 2010, at 1 p.m. at the Hillsboro Christian Church with the Rev. Jim Hamm officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hutton Funeral Home, Hillsboro, Kentucky.
