Mary Hanes Brewer Sargent Burton
1935-2009


MOREHEAD - Mary Hanes Brewer Sargent Burton, age 74, of 603 Rawcel St., departed this Earth on Nov. 7, 2009 to join her Heavenly Father and live again with her father & mother, Edgar & Elizabeth Hanes; sisters Pearl, Carolyn, and Margie; and sons Vernon L. Sargent, William D. Brewer, and Michael G. Sargent.

Mary is survived by her brothers Kenneth Hanes, Denvil Hanes, and Billy Hanes; sisters Nelma Riley and Joyce Pennington; son Timothy J. Sargent of Morehead, Ky.; daughters Wanda M. Brewer of Farmers, Ky., Sheldia Jean Bledsoe of Dayton, OH., and Bonita S. Sorters of Ingleside, Texas; Grandchildren Tiffany Williams and Brandon Brewer, Rodney Whitt, Jonathan Whitt, Kimberly Tackett, Jason Bledsoe, Michael Sammons, Andrew Cox, Vanessa Sargent and T.J. Sargent; Great Grandchildren Logan Cox, Codie Tackett, Caleb Tackett, Sarah Whitt and Taylor Whitt; and numerous friends and relatives.

Mary was a follower of the Church of God and loved Gospel music. Mary was noted for her artistic ability to make beautiful flower arrangements, arts and crafts, quilt-making, and her ability to always overcome life's upheavals without ever complaining. She loved her flowers, and last but not least, her puppy Coco, her very best friend who was her dearest companion 'til the end. Mary always had a smile for everyone and would give everything she had to anyone in need. She will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, November 11, 2009 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Brother Don Rivers officiating. Burial will follow in the Clearfield Cemetery. Visitation at Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home is from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday.

Pallbearers will be Tim Plank, Rodney Whitt, Jason Bledsoe, Rick Keller, Mike Howard and Chris Duffy.

Tyler “Bear” Cundiff
1995-2009


MOREHEAD - Tyler “Bear” Cundiff, 14, of Greenwood, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2009.

He was born January 14, 1995, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Survivors include his mother, Heather Cundiff of Greenwood; grandparents Vern and Dee Cundiff of Atlanta, Georgia; grandmother, Debbie Baker of Greenwood; aunts and uncles, Steve and Gretchen Atkins of Indianapolis, Nick and Kristy Cook of Greenwood, and Kelly Baker of Greenwood; cousins, Stephanie, Mason, Rylan, and Savannah. He is also survived by many special caregivers, including his special caregiver, Lisa Stringer.

He was a very loving child. He couldn't speak a word, but his actions touched many lives.

Friends celebrated his life Friday, November 6, 2009, at Wilson St.Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory, Greenwood Chapel, from 6 to 8 p.m. Visitation was Saturday from 2-3 p.m. at Northcutt and Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. A graveside service was conducted 3:30 p.m. Saturday, November 7, 2009, at the Bowman Cemetery in Morehead with the Rev. David Starcher officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Tyler Cundiff Trust Fund, 800 U.S. 31 South, Greenwood, IN 46143.

Local arrangements were under the direction of Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Edith Johnson Ellington
1920-2009


MOREHEAD - Edith Johnson Ellington, 89, of Gilmer Texas formerly of Morehead and New Carlisle, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2009 in Gilmer.

She was born on September 15, 1920 in Morgan County near West Liberty, Kentucky, a daughter of the late John Newton Johnson and Vena Haney Johnson.

After her marriage to John Paul Ellington, she lived most of her life on a farm in Rowan County on the North Fork of the Licking River. She loved the farm and Kentucky and lived there until she was forced to move to Ohio because of illness. Nine years ago, she moved to Gilmer, Texas to live with her daughter, Judy. Mrs. Ellington loved to walk in the hills of Kentucky and worked to save the American Chestnut tree by taking care of young trees. Mrs. Ellington was a hunter, excellent marksman and an avid reader. She was an excellent cook and was well-known for her fried chicken and the wonderful pies she made for Thanksgiving. She loved her family and was much loved for her thoughtfulness and devotion.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Paul Ellington who passed away in 1991, three brothers, John Newton Johnson, Jr., Edward Johnson and Melven Johnson and one sister, Lorene Horton.

Survivors include one son, Johnie M. Ellington and his wife, Helen of Morehead, two daughters, Judy L. Ellington Green of Gilmer, Texas and Loretta C. Ellington Mutschler of New Carlisle, Ohio, six grandchildren, Larry R. Mutschler, Jr. of New Carlisle, Ohio, Jacqueline C. Mutschler of Houston, Texas, Kandice R. LaGrone and Shane Lakes both of Gilmer, Texas, Timothy B. Fultz of Lakeland, Florida, and Felicia C. Ellington Howard of Morehead, ten great-grandchildren, Larry R. Mutschler III and Shaylah M. Mutschler of New Carlisle, Ohio, Michael A. Wille and Nicholas J. Wille of Houston, Texas, Brie E. LaGrone and Jacob P. LaGrone of Gilmer, Texas, Justin C. Lakes, W. Tristan Lakes and Joseph N. Lakes all of Gilmer, Texas and Micheala C. Howard of Morehead and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Ellington requested to be returned to her home, the hills of Kentucky and be buried in the Ellington Family Cemetery.

Graveside services will be conducted at 12:00 Noon Saturday, November 14, 2009 at the Ellington Cemetery. Visitation at Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home is after 10:00 A.M. Saturday.

Ernest Recel Fugate Jr.
1950-2009


MOREHEAD - Ernest Recel Fugate, Jr., 59, of Versailles Kentucky formerly of Morehead, passed away Saturday, November 7, 2009 at his home.

He was born on April 6, 1950 in Clearfield, Kentucky, a son of the late Ernest Recel Fugate and Edna Baldridge Fugate.

Mr. Fugate was retired Sergeant First Class, United States Army. He was a member of the Woodford Christian Church and the American Legion. Mr. Fugate enjoyed reading, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Hassie Gay Fugate, whom he married on May 1, 1971, one son, James Michael Fugate and his wife, Stacy of Versailles, two brothers, Michael S. Fugate and his wife, Roswitha of Radcliff and John E. Fugate and his wife, Kay of Greenwood, Indiana, one sister, Diane Ball of Morehead, two grandchildren, Sydney Nicole Fugate and Taylor Paige Fugate and several beloved nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM. Tuesday, November 10, 2009 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Randy Nation, Minister officiating. Burial will follow in the Clearfield Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted at the graveside by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126.

Pallbearers will be Terry Walker, Brian Stephens, Darby Riggsby, Bryan Riggsby, Wesley Clark and Brian Dougherty and honorary pallbearers will be Benjamin Bryant, Gary Taylor, Darrell Cox, Richard C. Goodman and William J. Goodman.

Arnold Alvin Gulley
1922-2009


MOREHEAD - Arnold Alvin Gulley, 87, of Blackberry Drive, passed away Saturday, November 7, 2009 at his home.

He was born on June 22, 1922 in Lewis County, Kentucky, a son of the late Essie Vernon Gulley and Lona Ethel Pendland Gulley.

Mr. Gulley was a retired United States Army Master Sergeant after serving for 26 years, 6 months and 15 days. He served during World War II - Normandy Beach D-day +1, and DMZ Korea during the Vietnam War. Mr. Gulley was a 32nd Degree Mason and he worked for 17 1/2 years civil service at Fort Benjamin Harris in Indianapolis, Indiana.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Violet Riley Gulley, who passed away on May 9, 2008, two brothers, Curtis Ancil Gulley and Herbert William Gulley and two sisters, Charlotte Gulley Parsons and Mary Irene Gulley Owens.

Survivors include nine children, Arnold Alvin Gulley, Jr. of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Carol Jane Gulley of San Jose, California, David Charles Gulley of Springfield, Maryland, Mary Susan Gulley Cappuccio of Walpole, Massachusetts, Daniel Eric Gulley of Hope, Rhode Island, Clifford Mead Gulley of MidWest City, Oklahoma, Robin Mead Gulley Martellini of N. Scituate, Rhode Island, Gail Lynn Dennen Gulley of Taunton, Massachusetts and Brian Roger Gulley of Taunton, Massachusetts, two brothers, Harold Raymond Gulley of Charlottesville, Indiana and Charles Homer Gulley of Knightstown, Indiana, three sisters, Lula Mae Gulley Williams of Mansfield, Ohio, Mildred Garnel Gulley Kline of Carthage, Indiana and Betty Lou Gulley Thurston of Rushville, Indiana, seven grandchildren, Bonnie Christina Monroe of Grass Valley, California, Clint Gulley of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Kerri Gulley of Rhode Island, Hannah Dennen of Taunton, Massachussetts, Ian Dennen of Taunton, Massachussetts, Jonathan Nicholas Martellini of N. Scituate, Rhode Island and Sofia Rosana Martellini of N. Scituate, Rhode Island, one great-grandson, William Eric Keeling of Grass Valley, California and his former wife, Sarah Marion Jertson Gulley of Sacramento, California.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM. Thursday, November 12, 2009 at the Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown, Indiana. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Riverside Cemetery. Visitation at Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home is after 6:00 P.M. Tuesday. Masonic services will be conducted at 7:30 P.M. Tuesday by the Phelps Masonic Lodge No. 482.

Cecil J. Kidd

OHIO - Cecil J. Kidd, 80, of Dayton, died Tuesday, October 13, 2009.

He was born in Rowan Co., KY to the late Allie and Myrtle Kidd. He is also preceded in death by his sister, Willowdean Easterling, and brother, Dennis Kidd. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Annette Kidd; son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Kim Kidd; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and James Hixenbaugh and Diana and Alex Fabrick; grandchildren, Rachelle Davis, Alex Fabrick, Sara Brown, Chris Kidd, Kevin Kidd, Derek Hixenbough and Danielle Hixenbough; five great-grandchildren; sister, Helen Trent; and brother, Glennis Kidd.

After 36 years of service he retired from Delco products. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Korean conflict. He was a member of Northridge Free Will Baptist Church. Services were Friday, October 16, 2009 at the Tobias Funeral Home, Beavercreek Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
