Willard Adkins
1935-2009


MOREHEAD – Willard Adkins, age 74, of Dark Hollow Road, Clearfield, KY, passed away Thursday, December 31, 2009, at his residence.

He was born October 2, 1935, at Bascom, KY, in Elliott County, son of the late Lonnie and Serilda Jane Prewitt Adkins. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray Adkins and Ronnie Adkins, and two sisters, Marie Barrett and Thelma “Faye” Howard.

Willard is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ruth Eldridge Adkins; two sons, Tim Adkins of Clearfield, KY, and Greg Adkins of Morehead, KY; one daughter, Tammy Adkins Madden and her husband Gary of Morehead, KY; 8 grandchildren, Krista, Mark, Josh, Kelli, Stephanie, Shane, Caleb, and Ceara; and 10 great grandchildren.

Also surviving are five brothers, Lonnie Adkins, Jr. of Midway, KY; Kenny Adkins of Lawrenceburg, KY; Larry Adkins, Donald Adkins, and Roger Adkins, all of Sandy Hook, KY; two sisters, Isobell Stephens of Frankfort, KY, and Betty Stephens of Sandy Hook, KY; and several nieces and nephews.

Willard served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a barber and owner of the Midway Café in Midway, KY, for a number of years. In 1963, Willard and Ruth moved to Morehead where he was a barber and later the owner of Adkins Siding and Guttering. Currently, he owned Adkins Herbs and Vitamins, which he started 15 years ago. Willard loved working in his flower garden and helping people. He attended the Church of God.

Funeral services were conducted 1 p.m. Monday, January 4, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother Gary Madden officiating. Burial was in Elliott County Memory Gardens in Sandy Hook, KY, with full military rites conducted by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126.

Pallbearers were Dewayne Eldridge, Jeff Eldridge, Mark Adkins, Josh Madden, Shane Adkins, Caleb Madden and George Ison.

Visitation was after 5 p.m. Sunday, January 3, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.

Morgan Dale Bellamy
1958-2010


MT. STERLING – Morgan Dale Bellamy, age 51, of Lower Spruce Road, Jeffersonville, KY, passed away Friday, January 1, 2010, at his residence.

Born May 5, 1958, in Montgomery County, Kentucky, he was the son of Paul Bellamy and Ella Barnes Bellamy.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce B. Henderson Bellamy; son, Morgan Tyler Bellamy; father, Paul Bellamy; and brother, Anthony Duane (Big’N) Bellamy, all of Jeffersonville, KY; stepmother, Janet Lynn Bellamy of Richmond, KY; and half-sister, Jennifer Holman of Danville, KY.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ella Barnes Bellamy, and two daughters, Stephanie Michele Bellamy and Gwendolyn Ella Bellamy.

He was a member of Carpenters Union Local 1650 and was of the Pentecostal Holiness Faith.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 5, 2010, at the Jeffersonville Assembly of God Church with Randall Wilder, Paul Henderson, and Chad Curran officiating. Interment will follow in the Henderson Family Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Doug Craft, Larry Lewis, Jerry Yates, Ricky Sandavall, Waylon Isaac, and Paul Schirmer. Honorary pallbearers will be nephews and cousins.

Visitation is Monday, January 4, 2010, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Jeffersonville Assembly of God Church.

Maxine Collins
1926-2010


MOREHEAD – Maxine Black Collins, age 83, of Clearfield Hill, Clearfield, Kentucky, was born July 31, 1926, in Rowan County, Kentucky, and passed away Saturday, January 2, 2010, at Ridgeway Nursing and Rehab in Owingsville, Kentucky.

Maxine is survived by her husband of 66 years, Harold Collins, whom she wed December 21, 1943; one daughter, Linda Gagnon and her husband Henri of Westland, Michigan; one granddaughter, Deanna Jorgensen and her husband John of Williamsburg, Michigan; one grandson, Jason Gagnon of Garden City, Michigan; one great granddaughter; one great grandson; one brother-in-law, Ray Collins of Clearfield, Kentucky, and many other relatives and friends.

A daughter, Valetta Kay Collins, preceded her in death on March 31, 2007.

Maxine was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 33 years of service in the area. She was a Postmaster at Farmers and a supervisor at other post offices including Elliottville, Morehead, Clearfield, and Salt Lick. She was a member of the Clearfield Tabernacle First Church of God.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 6, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Gary McQuain and the Rev. Cecil Ison officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers: David Dillon, J. B. Blakeman, Scott Collins, Charles McIntosh, Ted Trent, Art Litton, and Jack Carter.

Olive Perkins Skaggs
1915-2010


MT. STERLING – Olive Perkins Skaggs, age 94, of Iroquois Drive, Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, passed away Friday, January 1, 2010, at St. Joseph Hospital in Mt. Sterling.

She was born April 24, 1915, in Rowan County, Kentucky, daughter of the late Clarence E. and Versie Riddle Perkins. Her husband, William Skaggs, also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Skaggs is survived by two sons, Gerald D. Skaggs and William M. (Billy) Skaggs Jr., both of Jeffersonville, KY; three daughters, Barbara A. Lykins of Franklin, Ohio, Shirley M. Parks of Frenchburg, Kentucky, and Juanita J. Packett of Salt Lick, Kentucky; 13 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren.

Other survivors include five brothers, Millard Perkins and Cleo Perkins, of Springfield, Ohio, Raymond Perkins of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, Herbert Perkins of Louisville, Kentucky, and Wilburn Perkins of Benton, Arkansas, and one sister, Gracie Perkins of New Jersey.

She was a homemaker and member of the Lucky Stop Pentecostal Church.

Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 6, 2010, at the Jeffersonville Assembly of God Church with Gerald Skaggs, Jr., officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Morehead.

Visitation for Mrs. Skaggs is Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Jeffersonville Assembly of God Church.

Eugene Grant Thomas Jr.
1927-2010


MOREHEAD - Eugene Grant Thomas Jr. age 82, of Goodan Creek Road, Olive Hill, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, January 2, 2010, at his residence.

He was born December 8, 1927, in Rowan County, Kentucky, son of the late Eugene Grant Thomas, Sr., and Ollie Jane Conley Thomas. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, James C. Thomas, Willie Thomas, and David Thomas, and two sisters, Leanna Dye and Nola Mynhier.

Mr. Thomas is survived by his wife of 28 years, Helen Porter Thomas, whom he married May 6, 1981; one son, Eugene Grant Thomas III of Englewood, Ohio; two sisters, Olive Thomas of Dayton, Ohio, and Rosemary (Homer) Johnson of New Carlisle, Ohio; and a special granddaughter, Crystal Deason.

Eugene served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1946 to 1949, was employed for 23 years at Sunshine Biscuit in Dayton, Ohio, and retired from Sealmaster in Morehead in 1990. He was also a dairy and tobacco farmer and enjoyed woodworking.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 5, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Bob Burton and Rev. Jason Carpentario officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens with full military rites conducted by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126.

Pallbearers: Gene Thomas, Rick Holbrook, Larry Knipp, Larry Porter, James E. Thomas, and Gale Porter.

Visitation is after 5 p.m. Monday, January 4, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.

Dennis Ray Trent
1939-2009


MOREHEAD – Dennis Ray Trent, age 70, of Rainbow Road, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, December 30, 2009, at the U.K. Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky.

Born July 21, 1939, in Rowan County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Phillip and Ethel Matthews Trent. His wife, Barbara Jean Bowling Trent, preceded him in death on December 16, 1999.

Dennis is survived by one son, Dennis Wayne Trent of Morehead, Kentucky; two brothers, Curtis Trent and Thurman Trent, both of Morehead, Kentucky; and four sisters, Victoria Davis of Ewing, Kentucky, Elnora McDaniel of Ypsilanti, Michigan, Faye Stover of Morehead, Kentucky, and Jean Noe of Harlan, Kentucky.

Dennis was a former employee of Diamond Forest Lumber in Morehead.

Funeral services were conducted 1 p.m. Sunday, January 3, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Ray Glover officiating. Burial was in Trent Cemetery on Trent Ridge.

Pallbearers were Virgil Black, Dale Sloan, Kevin Trent, Ray Baldridge, Jamie Trent, and Darrell Hitch.

Visitation was after 5 p.m. Saturday, January 2, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Katherine Williams
1924-2010


MOREHEAD – Katherine Mynhier Williams, age 85, of Whispering Pines, Clearfield, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, January 2, 2010, at Pioneer Trace Nursing Home in Flemingsburg, Kentucky.

Born April 16, 1924, in Rowan County, Kentucky, Katherine was the daughter of the late Estle and Sadie Kelsey Mynhier.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law: Gary and Janet Williams of Connersville, Indiana, Lanny “Duke” and Beverly Williams of Morehead, Kentucky, and Dion and Kimberly Williams of Morehead, Kentucky, and six grandchildren: Mark Williams, Shawn Williams, Heather Landau, Sam Williams, Farrah Ingram, and Amber Evans.

Mrs. Williams graduated from the Appalachian School of Practical Nursing in Lexington, Kentucky, and was a licensed practical nurse for twenty years. She was a member of the First Church of God.

Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 6, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother Kenny Fouch, Dr. Mark Williams, and Minister Jesse Perry officiating. Interment will be in the Baldridge Cemetery at Clearfield, Kentucky.

Pallbearers: Mark Williams, Sam Williams, Shawn Williams, Nate Landau, Scott Ingram, and Caleb Evans.

Visitation is after 5 p.m. Tuesday, January 5, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals
