Troy Earl Barker
1928 – 2010
MOREHEAD – Troy Earl Barker, 81, passed away Monday, August 9, 2010 in the St. Claire Regional Medical Center.
He was born on September 22, 1928 in Haldeman, Kentucky, a son of the late Walter and Cosy Withrow Barker.
Mr. Barker was a retired construction worker and a United States Army Veteran.
Survivors include his son, Dennis Barker of Villa Park, Illinois, three brothers, John P. Barker and Robert Barker both of Morehead and Ernest Barker of Muncie, Indiana, four sisters, Hazel Potts, Mildred Patrick and Wilma Lewis all of Morehead and Virginia Hinton of Mansfield, Ohio and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Friday, August 13, 2010 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Rev. Ray Glover officiating. Burial will follow in the New Sill Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted at the graveside by the Morehead American Legion Post No. 126.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Anna Mae Ellis Earley
1923 – 2010
MOREHEAD - Mrs. Anna Mae Ellis Earley, Age 87 of 421 Cecil Drive, passed away Thursday evening, August 5, 2010 at her home after an extended illness.
She was born in Rowan County, Kentucky on April 12, 1923, a daughter of the late John and Mary Alderson Ellis.
Mrs. Earley was a retired bookkeeper and executive secretary. She had worked at several area businesses and retired from the Morehead Treatment Center. She was a member of the Clearfield Tabernacle First Church of God, a graduate of Morehead High School and enjoyed working in flowers, sewing and fishing.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Davis Ellis, Lon Ellis and George Ellis and three sisters, Thelma Ellington, Peaches Cecil and Julia Day.
Survivors include her husband, Edward Norton Earley, one daughter, Pam Earley Zorens and her husband, Bob of Bronston, Kentucky, four grandchildren, David Zorens, Frederick Zorens, Steven Zorens and Kimberly Shephard, three great-grandchildren, Richie Heimbrock, Amber Brown and Brittni Kalfus, one great-great-grandson, Benjamin Brown, three nephews, Dr. Jack Ellis, Charles Ellington and Ronald Ellington, three nieces, Jewell Moore, Hazel Pennock and Peaches Cooper, brother-in-law, Don Earley, sister-in-law, Maxine Milner, three very special friends, JoAnn Sturgill, Cathy Reddicks and Billie Jo Lambert and several other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, August 8, 2010 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Clark and Dr. Jack Ellis officiating. Burial was in the Lee Cemetery.
Visitation was Saturday evening, August 7, 2010 at the funeral home.
Pallbearers were David Zorens, Fritz Zorens, Don Earley, Garland Earley, John Ellis and Dr. Jeff Ellis.

Dr. Charles H. Elliott, Jr.
1928 -2010
MOREHEAD – Dr. Charles Henry Elliott, Jr., age 84, of Clearfield, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, August 10, 2010, at his residence.
Born January 19, 1926, in Syracuse, New York, he was the son of the late Charles H. Elliott, Sr., and Dr. Marjorie Fox Reeve Elliott.
Charles is survived by his wife of 30 years, Madge A. Thomas Elliott, whom he wed November 16, 1980; four children, Reesha Grunder of Tallahassee, Florida, Eric Elliott and wife Lisa of Ramsey New Jersey, Laura Elliott of Boston, Massachusetts, and Vanessa Elliott of Blooming Grove, New York; three stepchildren, Susie Taylor and husband Steve of Morehead, Kentucky, Jay Day and his wife Teresa of Lexington, Kentucky, Pam Dillon and her husband David of Clearfield, Kentucky; twelve grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
Charles was an educated man passing on his love for learning to all who came in contact with him. He obtained his education from Cornell University at Ithaca in the State of New York, receiving a Bachelor of Science, June 13, 1949, Master of Arts, January 31, 1951, and a Doctor of Philosophy September 20, 1960. Charles performed in the opera at Radio City Music Hall in New York City for eight years and was a Navy veteran of WW II. He spent most of his years as a college professor teaching Philosophy, Sociology, Anthropology, and Race and Ethnicity. He taught at many colleges including Fordham University in New York City, Cornell University in Ithaca, University of Gothenburg Sweden, Syracuse University, Morehead State University, and Tampa College in Florida, where he retired. Charles’ passion for teaching continued as he worked as a ski instructor and worked with a literacy program in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Charles was a devoted husband, brother, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He lived life to the fullest and took what most people would find trivial moments and turned them into important life lessons; he showered family with words of encouragement and planted seeds of wisdom as one of his most notable gifts. He and his wife Madge traveled the globe and left no stone unturned as he treated every day as an opportunity to grow mentally, physically, and spiritually. He loved golf, tennis, music, poetry, philosophy, nature, a magnificent sunrise with an ocean view topped off with a good cup of coffee. Charles understood the value of relationships and loved his family but above all he loved life and he lived it beautifully.
Visitation is from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 14, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals. A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 5 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. Allan Hutchinson officiating.

McGee Delbert Jones
1923-2010
NORTH CAROLINA - McGee Delbert Jones of Rutherfordton died August 10th at Hospice House in Forest City after a brief illness. He was born November 16, 1923. He was a retired supervisor at Mastercraft Corp. He was honorably discharged from the Army, proudly serving his country during WWII with the 567th AAA(AW) Batallion. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years Helen Newton Jones. Also preceding him in death were infant daughters Rebecca Gail and Frances Jane, father and mother Edd and Frances Greene Jones, brother Wray Jones, sister Jeanette Jones Jones, and grandson Andy Mancinelli.
Survivors are sons Jimmy Jones and wife Cathy of Asheboro, NC and Brent Jones and wife Jean of Morehead, KY; daughters Sandy Austin and husband Ted of Rutherfordton, N.C. and Janet Mancinelli and husband John of Shelby, N.C.; one sister Thelma McGinnis of Lake Charles, LA; nine grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Friday, August 13 at 3:30 PM at Sunset Cemetery in Shelby, N.C. with Rev. Ad Hopper officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 until 3 PM Friday at Crowe’s Mortuary in Rutherfordton prior to the service.

Edna Mae Sharp
1912 - 2010
LEXINGTON - Edna Mae Campbell Sharp, age 98, of Lexington, KY died Sunday, August 8, 2010 at Richmond Place Rehabilitation and Health Center.
She was born July 7, 1912 near Butler, Pendleton Co., KY to the late William Neil & Edna Mae Bradford Campbell.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Kenneth W. Sharp, a son, Kenneth C. Sharp, and two sisters.
She graduated from the University of Kentucky and was a retired educator with the Fayette County School System, a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, the Fayette County Extension Homemakers, and the KY Airstream Trailer Club & Wally Byam Caravan Club.
An avid reader, she also enjoyed gardening, painting, weaving, UK basketball, entertaining and visiting with friends, and traveling.
Survivors include one son, William W. “Bill” Sharp (Betty) of Morehead, one grandson, Dan Sharp of Lexington, one granddaughter, Debby Sharp Perry (Jeff) of Winchester and one great-grandson Dylan Perry; two sisters, Bessie Hawkins, Owenton, KY and Ann Delaney, Butler, KY, plus numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, 2010 at First United Methodist Church in Lexington with Reverends Todd Nelson, Jim Stratton, and Jim Murphy officiating. Burial at Lexington Cemetery.

Dan Andrew Stafford
1961 – 2010
SALT LICK – Dan Andrew Stafford, age 48, of Salt Lick, Kentucky, journeyed from this world to the next on Monday, August 9, 2010, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky.
He was born August 11, 1961, in Ashland, Kentucky, and is the son of Amy McIntire Stafford of Frenchburg, Kentucky, and the late Morris Stafford.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Susan Borstner Stafford; one daughter, Megan Ison and husband Jerry of Morehead, Kentucky; and two grandsons, Trenton Powers and Andrew Ison.
Other survivors include one brother and his wife, Jon and Penny Stafford of Memphis, Tennessee; three sisters and their husbands, Sherry and Bern Loibl of Newfoundland, New Jersey, Melody and Ty Martin of Nyssa, Oregon , and Valerie and Herb Rice of Catlettsburg, Kentucky; several nieces, nephews and other family members; in-laws and numerous friends.
Dan was the warehouse manager at CKI in Mount Sterling, Kentucky. Although his body has passed from this world, his spirit will remain through his generosity and acts of kindness that touched so many. Dan was greatly loved and will always be remembered.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, August 13, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Sean P. Reilley, Ph.D., officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Travis Edwin Trent
1938-2010
MOREHEAD – Travis Edwin Trent, age 71, of Trent Ridge, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, August 11, 2010, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.
Born December 3, 1938, in Rowan County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Rev. Zora Trent and Vada Scaggs Trent. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Beauford Trent and J. C. Trent.
Travis is survived by his wife of 52 years, Elizabeth Kidd Trent, whom he wed July 19, 1958; four children: Travis Trent, Jr. (T. J.) and his wife Penney of Morehead, Kentucky, Joyce Blake and her husband Phillip of Eighty Four, Pennsylvania, Janet Moore and her husband Mark of Ashland, Kentucky, and Sherry Wells, and her husband Jeff of Winter Haven, Florida; and eight grandchildren: Justin Blake, Richmond Blake, Austin Blake, Jaquelyn Wells, Jeffrey Wells, Stephen Moore, Kacey Moore, and Bailey Trent.
He is also survived by two brothers: Nelson Trent of Jacksonville, Florida, and Odice Trent of Morehead, Kentucky; three sisters, Martha Weddington of Elliott County, Kentucky, Darlene Webb of Olive Hill, Kentucky, and Maudie Wallace of Clearfield, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Travis loved his family, friends, farm, and hunting. He had worked construction for East Kentucky Paving, Ruth Paving, and Hinkle Contracting. He also served on the Rowan County Conservation Board.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, August 14, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Rev. H. G. Pratt and Rev. Herbert D. Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in the Trent Black Cemetery on Trent Ridge.
Pallbearers: Justin Blake, Richmond Blake, Austin Blake, Stephen Moore, Jeffrey Wells, Chris Rowley, Randy Wagoner, and Anthony Williams.
Visitation is after 4 p.m. Friday, August 13, 2010, and after 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 14, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
