Jannes Paul "Jan" Morris

5/24/12 — 1937-2012

Jannes Paul “Jan” Morris, 75, of Timberwood Trail, Morehead, passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2012. 

Born February 6, 1937, in Pike County, he was a son of the late Joe and Myrtie Varney Morris.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Curtis, Ray, and Danny Morris.

Jan is survived by his wife, Linda Mullins Morris; two sons, Jamie Morris and wife Terri of Lexington, and Jeremy Morgan and wife Patti of Louisville; four daughters, Debra Sellards and husband Neil, Cleo Fields and husband Larry, and Michelle Morris, all of Pikeville, and Faye Morris of Nolensville, Tennessee; 9 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren.

Other survivors include one brother, Tracy Morris of Pikeville; three sisters, Zuann Morris and Lojean Williams, both of Pikeville, and Nadine Collins of Richmond; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and thoughtful friends, including his long-term physician, Dr. Christian Weigel.

He also leaves behind his beloved dog, Coalee.

Jan and Linda moved from Pike County to Morehead 34 years ago.  As a catastrophic insurance adjuster, Jan traveled across the country assisting families and businesses when disaster struck.  For many years, he was a self-employed home and commercial building contractor and especially enjoyed designing and building the log home that he and Linda shared. 

Jan enjoyed bowling for a number of years, was a great fan of Bluegrass music and U.K. basketball, and will always be remembered for his kind and generous spirit.

He was a devoted Christian and member of the Sharkey Freewill Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, May 26, 2012, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Harley Sexton, Jr., officiating.  Burial will follow in Garvin Ridge Cemetery in Olive Hill.

Pallbearers:  Eric Johnson, Jamie Morris, Justin Mullins, Doug Branham, Bob Forsythe, Lonnie Hall, and Crash Mullins.

Visitation is after 5 p.m. Friday, May 25, 2012, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.
